I agree that that one seems surprising.
Do you think his numbers are mistaken?
There is arguably a longstanding tradition of liberal Christianity in this country (Unitarians, Quakers, Episcopalians, United Church of Christ ... in some ways increasingly the RCC).

I'm just not sure it is possible to be both religious and liberal. Being religious, especially in the typical Christian American way, is counterproductive to being a liberal.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I know what you mean.
Still, check out this for example:

UUs have been around in America for at least a couple of centuries, and in Europe well before that.

Be back later,

Best put by........

The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It should transcend personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Covering both the natural and the spiritual, it should be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things natural and spiritual as a meaningful unity. Buddhism answers this description. If there is any religion that could cope with modern scientific needs it would be Buddhism. ---Albert Einstein

Love that last picture !

Yes, Buddhism sure has a lot of points - for one, it seems fully in accord with the idea of 'what you sow that also will you reap' (with which I surely agree).
Even so,
Looking into it, I was intimidated by two of its features:

1) the no intoxication one.
a. I do like to scatter my brains occasionally a little;
b. They even include caffeine, without which I would be an intolerable monster within a half hour of waking.

2) The scrupulous honesty required. Not even *white lies* such as "Oh yeah, I love your new haircut", or *weasle lies* like "Can't believe I ran into you here...was just picking out your belated birthday card"...
both of which are more or less tolerated by the Judaeo-Christian religions.

They use spiritual aids entheogens and hallucinogens, living in the days of a drunken stupor (alcohol) are soon to be shunned and the man made drug crap will be no more!

From the Buddhist point of view the use of all intoxicants is frowned upon, nevertheless the effects of psychedelic agents need to be examined in two respects:

1. The materialistic versus spiritual explanation for their effects.
2. The large number of Western Buddhists who have started on their spiritual path from the use of entheogens.

Now, concerning education... I'm a conservative with a post-graduate degree. You're a liberal with... ?

Can you back that statement up, and verify it, with anything other than your own opinion?

I'd like some examples.
