No need
If there is already a thread based on this, then please connect it.

I believe there is no need for abortion for all but one case; that is, if both will die during delivery. I am not here to tell women what to do with their bodies, nor do I judge the women who have made the extremely painful decision of having an abortion. I can't understand what a woman must be feeling before, during, and forever after an abortion; and I certainly will not try. I am not supporting government banning, because the government should not have control over what women do to their bodies, pregnant or not. But, I do believe that we should not abort their babies. I will give a few reasons for so.
1. The overwhelming majority, over 90%, are for convenience. Simply put, the babies are unwanted. This percentage excludes all abortion cases based on rape, incest, and handicapped nature. How tragic that a baby is unwanted. Why not put the baby up for adoption? There are so many people who would give the child a home.
2. Rape is not a reason for abortion. How horrible rape is; but why punish the baby for the crime of the father? The baby is a victim, too. He/she did not plan on possibly being born into a bad situation by a mother who might hate her him/her.
3. Severe handicapped or retardation is not a reason for abortion. I've never met a retarded or disabled child who wishes they were never born. Look into the eyes of a baby with down syndrome; see all the love and happiness they have. I work with retarded, handicapped, and diasabled young adults. I can tell you from experience that they don't wish they were never born.
4. The child will be in a bad, unhappy situation. Again, this a matter of convenience for the parent. I have seen the begger kids on Tijuana, Mexico playing in heeps of garbage; they were laughing and playing like the priveleged kids 20 minutes to the north.
In conclusion, don't abort your kids simply because they will make your life harder. I don't judge you if you decide to have an abortion. Just know that there is mental, psychological, and physical side effects that will accompany your decision.

It's very easy to look at someone else and say you don't NEED that. That's why the decision must be the woman's, only she can decide if she NEEDS it or not.

No abortion is for convenience, NONE. Every woman who has an abortion has a reason that is compelling for her, whether or not you can understand the compelling reason. Pregnancy/childbirth is an ordeal, an ordeal that lasts approximately a year, it is not something you just ignore while you go about your regular routine. A woman should not have to give up a year of her life enduring that ordeal in order to hand over the baby to someone else. Oh, and BTW, giving up a baby for adoption causes lifelong emotional trauma.

A woman should not have to endure the pregnancy/childbirth ordeal in addition to trying to recover from the rape ordeal. There is no baby until a woman has done all the work of gestation, so if she wants to end it before the process is complete, it's her choice.

A severely handicapped or retarded child will be a burden to his/her parents and to society. Parents are the best equipped to know whether they can handle the burden or not.

It's too bad there is not a test to determine if the baby will turn out to be a total asshole or criminal in life. If such a test was reliable and available, abortion should be routine.

What about what the child needs? Like living.

No abortion is for convenience, NONE.

If so, then why are the overwhelming majority of abortions, over 90%, simply UNWANTED pregnancies?

Every woman who has an abortion has a reason that is compelling for her, whether or not you can understand the compelling reason.

How can killing your baby be compelling to anyone?

Pregnancy/childbirth is an ordeal, an ordeal that lasts approximately a year, it is not something you just ignore while you go about your regular routine.
Its actually 38 weeks. Didn't you take health in school? But I'm just a guy; what do I know.

A woman should not have to give up a year of her life enduring that ordeal in order to hand over the baby to someone else. Oh, and BTW, giving up a baby for adoption causes lifelong emotional trauma.

Again, just kill the baby, out of convenience for the mother to not suffer.
And abortion won't cause lifelong trauma?

A woman should not have to endure the pregnancy/childbirth ordeal in addition to trying to recover from the rape ordeal. There is no baby until a woman has done all the work of gestation, so if she wants to end it before the process is complete, it's her choice.

Punish the innocent baby to take revenge on the rapist; how honorable.

A severely handicapped or retarded child will be a burden to his/her parents and to society. Parents are the best equipped to know whether they can handle the burden or not.

So abort out of convenience for the parents and society? Let's kill all the vets that came back from Iraq with physical, mental, emotional, and psychological damage while we're at it; they will surely be a burden to society.

Again, parents are the best equipped to know if they can handle the responsibilities of rearing a child. Many women abort a second or third pregnancy in order to give better care to the children she already has.

You treat abortion as a contraceptive. Why don't the parents take birth control, practice oral sex, if they're not ready or responsible to have kids.

If you DON'T have an abortion, there are mental, psychological and physical side effects that will accompany your decision.
Like playing catch, changing endless diapers, practicing lines in rehaersals, helping with homework, giving them the keys to your car, paying for college, etc... what a horrible burden to live. I'm sure Jamie Lee Curtis, and the countless others who can't have kids, will agree with you.

They don't have to agree.

I think it is tragic that some women who would make great mothers can't have biological children. It is also tragic that some women who make lousy mothers can and often do. Adoption is an option...but there are so many unwanted children already in the system, and it seems like none of these people are willing to take them on, for whatever reason.

The only person who can actually make the decision that they are emotionally, physically and finacially able to bring a child into this world is the woman carrying it. The only other person I think should have any input into it is that woman's committed partner. (Notice I do not say the Sperm Donor.) Because they are the ones who are going to have to change the diapers, arrange for child care while they are working, arrange for time off if the child is ill, or if there's something important at school the parent doesn't want to miss, pay the medical bills, the college bills, the food bills, clothe and care for the child as it grows. Not everyone is capable of it, and some are smart enough to know they aren't.
It isn't the destination that is important; it is what we learn along the way

Then get her tubes tied. Or get a ?visectomy?( sorry if a mispell). Then there will be no more having kids, and women can have as much sex with no responsibilty of having kids.

The only person who can actually make the decision that they are emotionally, physically and finacially able to bring a child into this world is the woman carrying it.

Actually, most women that make the decision are doing so out of pressure from boy friends, husbands, parents, friends, and so on. Most women who have an abortion have no control over the decision; atleast, not mentally.

The only other person I think should have any input into it is that woman's committed partner. (Notice I do not say the Sperm Donor.) Still, why kill the baby out of convenience for the mother/parents? Why make the child suffer for the accidental pregnancy?

There are unwanted "children" in the system. But unwanted "babies"? Not so much. And even among the unwanted "children" many of them have "issues" that keeps them in the system. Not too many healthy babies of any race lost in "the system" these days.
This is my new signature.
