Yes but that baby was killed because she was not acceptable to the sisterhood. They were not able to see that before the birth because bene gesserit rules did not allow them to use technology like sonograms to determine birth defects in the child.

On the other hand jesse was on the verge of aborting either paul ( in House of Atreides-Brain Herbert. when she has second thoughts after betraying the sisterhood - ) or alia (after jesse drank the spice water with the fremen. no idea what it would do to the fetus) but refused in the end. So the bene gesserit had the ability to abort, but she refused to do so.

I'm a pretty big dune fan too

You are correct that the thought occurred to abort Alia, however, it would not have been done by Bene Gesserit control but rather it would have been induced by drinking a Fremen spice drink.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

I can't believe I am responding to THIS line on THIS topic.lol But, I too am a huge Dune fan. One of the things I loved about the Sisterhood was their control over themselves. And going with the logical progression......there is no reason that a Bene Gesserit COULDEN"T induce a miscarriage? abortion? if she so chose. If she can control the sex of the child, etc......the expelling of the unwanted fetus should be easy.
However, all fantasy aside......until people start realizing that this is a WOMAN'S issue and not a BABY issue FIRST, nothing will change. Women are just treated as the incubator while everyone else talks and talks about the rights and wrongs of it all. But, in the end, if something goes wrong.....THEY won't be dying but the woman will. Getting pregnant is still dangerous. Bad things still happen and we still lose women in childbirth. that is DEAD, folks. Some women have strokes during childbirth and end up crippled. Having a baby is a big deal.....especially to the life of the MOTHER. Not only does it change your life forever, it also changes your body forever. (no I am not talking about her figure.lol) I, myself, managed to acquire 35 allergies and BAD post partum depression when I had my daughter. I woulden't change a thing because I am so blessed to have her. But, if you think living your life being allergic to practically everything outside AND inside isn't hard..well, I refuse to live in a bubble. But I live with the consequences every day and night. There is so much more to this subject than shalts and shalt nots.
