DUNE related Question
If anybody has read the dune series by frank herbert or seen the series and movie , you will have heard of the Bene Gesserit.

I started thiking about the possibility of a woman ever attaining such control over her body that she could choose to have an abortion.

Personally i don't think it is impossible that humanity might reach such a stage of evolution. Each generation always utilizes it's mental capacities to a greater extent than it's preceding generations.

If that is true then that means that human beings are physically built to abort. And i take the fact that women spontaneously abort occasionally rather than by human interference as evidence that women might be able to control it once we understand it.

Does that mean that women are built to choose?

Nope.
It means that sometimes nature takes care of things when the embryo is unfit to develop normally.
And by the way, that happens to at least 50% of the pregnancies. Which tells me the ones that don't spontaneously abort are meant to live.

I would challenge that. A spontaneous abortion is caused by some manner of physiological change in a woman's system. That means that there exists within a woman the capacity for abortion. Her body is able to do it. Now if her body is able to do it the question arises:

CAN SHE CONTROL IT?

Dunno. Why don't you ask one of the millions of heartbroken women who have recently had a miscarriage.

Well i wouldn't want to impose myself on them in a difficult time. No doubt that it's a crappy feeling. However it doesn't change the question that if a woman's body is capable of voluntarily aborting a fetus, then can she control it? and if she can, then is anybody allowed to legislate that?

No I wouldn't think so.
The objects of legislation would have to be limited to the procured surgical abortions mainly. Something done by autonomic [not sure if that is the right word] processes is necessarily out of the domain of the law.
I know that even when the legislation is achieved some will slip through anyway. That can't be helped.

Why only surgical abortions? The fact is that in both cases it would be the mother's CHOICE. How to legislate that?

Looking at your earlier response where you said,
"I would challenge that. A spontaneous abortion is caused by some manner of physiological change in a woman's system"
what were you challenging? That over 50% naturally abort?
Because if not, basically you said the same thing I did - I called it nature and you called it a woman's body.

You have not demonstrated that it is the mother's choice.
If it was her choice, then so many of them would not be heartbroken.
