One cannot choose what they believe.
Backpeddle all you want. Explain away what you were "trying" to say all you want.

The FACT is that people CHOOSE what we believe all the time.
The FACT is that people CHOOSE to CHANGE what we believe all the time.

For instance, at one time in history it was BELIEVED that the earth was flat. Then, based on further exploration, fact-finding and evidence, people CHANGED what they BELIEVED to BELIEVE that the earth is, indeed, round.

At one time in history it was BELIEVED that the universe revolved around the earth. Then, based on further exploration, fact-finding and evidence, people CHANGED what they BELIEVED to BELIEVE that the earth actually orbits the sun.

Yadda yadda yadda. I'm through wasting my time with you and your teenage girl arguments.

It is clear you don't understand this argument. I am not sure what you do for a living, but I will take a wild guess and say that it does not involve formal argumentation.

You have shown that you can read, but not that you can understand. I have never once stated that beliefs cannot change, in fact I have granted that they do change. That is not me going back on my position, it has been my consistent position since the first post.

You have yet to provide one example of anyone who changed their beliefs based solely on will. Look what you wrote:

"The FACT is that people CHOOSE what we believe all the time.
The FACT is that people CHOOSE to CHANGE what we believe all the time."

I am glad that you put "choose" in all caps because that is the most important part of my argument. Again, my argument is that beliefs can change for various reasons but not by choice alone.

Now look at your examples that I am sure you thought proved my argument wrong:
"For instance, at one time in history it was BELIEVED that the earth was flat. Then, based on further exploration, fact-finding and evidence, people CHANGED what they BELIEVED to BELIEVE that the earth is, indeed, round.

At one time in history it was BELIEVED that the universe revolved around the earth. Then, based on further exploration, fact-finding and evidence, people CHANGED what they BELIEVED to BELIEVE that the earth actually orbits the sun."

The interesting thing about these example is they lack the important word "choose". I love this phrase, "based on further exploration, fact-finding and evidence, people CHANGED what they BELIEVED" but it is not in opposition to my argument. Again, since you seem to keep forgetting, my argument is that beliefs can change for various factors but not by choice alone. As you will notice, your examples use "various reasons", but not choice.

An example that was in opposition to my argument would look something like this: "John Doe was a Muslim until he was thirty. At thirty he decided that Christians looked cooler and chose to believe that Christianity was the one true faith." You will notice in this example, John Doe based his beliefs on his choice, not on exploration, fact finding, and evidence, as those may lead someone to change their beliefs even against their choice.

You got served.

I don't need to backpedal because you cannot give one argument against that statement.

You have yet to show one example of anyone changing a belief only by their will. But you can't admit when you have been defeated.

This statement of yours has been proven WRONG and FALSE.
