Additionally I wish to correct what I said about her having "cerebral palsy". It was Downs Syndrome. I occasionally confuse the two afflictions.

I went into my favorites to retrieve the story so it could be read on this forum, but what came up was this: "Page Cannot Be Found". Hmmmmm....and immediately my paranoia kicked in. I doubt I can remember her name (in fact, IF it was even given). But what angered me was that her parents just left!! As far as I know, they didn't even take her back to Texas for a proper burial. Oh yeah, and this was after watching her bleed to death. There has to be a hell if only in our minds.

Well, I believe there IS a hell for people like those parents (and the doctor). At least, I can certainly hope there is. My husband and son both work with mentally and physically challenged adults and it just makes my heart ache at how some of the relatives just ignore them. There are some that are wonderful but I can remember a particular instance where one of the residents was taken to the hospital with pneumonia and respiratory distress. The father of this sweet young lady not only did not come to see her but he left the state to go on vacation while she was in critical condition. He DID manage to leave a DNR order though and refused to allow her even to receive oxygen to assist with her breathing. We went to visit her and it broke my heart to see her struggle for breath. Fortunately, the people who work with her care for her more than her father and she was surrounded 24 hrs a day with volunteers by her side comforting her. The doctors did not give her much hope but she did pull through (I'm sure much to her father's disappointment). As a parent, I can't understand how someone could do that. I know this man and he is a nasty human being to begin with and quite well off. He only comes to see her once a year on her birthday and acts like he's doing her a big favor. I figure Hell has a nice seat waiting for him!!

My utmost respect to your family, huskylvr1. Seriously! It takes a special gift to work with handicapped people - and not to just work with them, but to love them as you're working with them.

Now I'll relinquish the hijacked thread, and let everyone get back to fighting!

Thanks Jefferson - I think they're pretty special guys too I really respect all the people they work with too. It's a really tough job and one that can make you burn out quite easily. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to do it myself but I'm glad there are people who can!

That's pretty much where I'm at too.

I include here, people who love working at Nursing Homes - and there are some of them. I used to spend quite a bit of time in Nursing Homes, for job-related reasons. I remember one particular young lady at one particular nursing home. I'm sure she was older than she appeared, but she looked like she was about 15 - and she was the most wonderful, loving, caring and helpful Nursing Home worker I've ever seen. Always smiling, always touching and/or hugging and/or kissing (very appropriately) the residents - particularly those in the Alzheimer's Unit.

Gems like her only come around once in a great while - but when you're around one, you know you're witnessing something VERY special!

I don't agree with late term abortions and I think they should be illegal except in cases where the mother's life is in jeopardy. I agree with a gestation limit of 14-18 weeks.
--- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope ---

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

Sounds like an angel in disguise to me!! Sounds like huskylvr1's family, too. If they're not angels in disguise, there are big rewards awaiting them on THAT DAY!! In the meantime, may God richly bless them!
