Quote from JPII: Within this same cultural climate, the body is no longer perceived as a properly personal reality, a sign and place of relations with others, with God and with the world.

As someone who is celibate and "married" to the church, his opinion is largely irrelevant. And maybe for SOME people, they might have lost the connection of their bodies to their spirits. But I don't believe that's the case for me. It's a generalization with no basis in fact.

I don't see it. How are the things that feminism seeks to combat supported by birth control?

So what should we teach young teenage girls??? many have already discussed the dangers of using hormonal birth control pills and devices. We all know that the use of spermicidals, condoms or even sponges is not 100% effective. So we say abstinence, yet when we say this, the response from its critics are that well they are going to do it anyway. Well is that a valid reponse???

Yes it is. Regardless of how much we insist that abstinence is the only way, there will be a percentage of the population that WILL have sex. Either we are willing to deal with this as a reality or we hide our heads in the sand.

Young adults should be offered abstinence as the best choice, but they should be educated about birth control as well.

Ooh, that brings up another point.

Who here advocates abstinence-only sex ed in schools?

I do not.

When Mr. Bush put that in the Texas school system, the pregnancy rate went UP.

That's a ridiculous statement to make without ANY comprehensive and credible evidence to back it up.

I really don't care whether it's true or not.

Because the whole point is that abstinence-only sex ed is unfair.

You don't care whether or not it's true? How, in the world, can you not care whether it's true or not?

And how is abstinence-only sex education unfair?

For all intents and purposes I'll say that the birth rate stagnated at that time.

Abstinence-only sex ed only gives one side of the story. The one they'd rather have us choose. But because, obviously, everyone will NOT choose that, if someone is uneducated about birth control then the schools are not doing much to prevent teen pregnancy.
