Abortion is most certainly used as a method of birth control. Why else is there a limit on 5 in any one year by the NHS in the UK?

Any girl who comes to a forum looking for advice on this subject should be told to take precautions next time. It really isn't rocket science.

There is far too much mollycoddling and a lack of responsibility is nurtured in this 'hurtling to damnation' world of ours. Some of us have to take the hard stand and say to the useless ineffectual others 'enough is enough'.

You have sex, you get pregnant, you have a baby.

Wow... How terribly short sighted of you...

true OD there are many men who are gung ho about the said conception of the chid but ditch the young lady carrying it but the opposite is also true. it is my belief (a belief developed from observation) that just as many men stick around and you only hear about the contrary because that is the steryotype of men that engage in thoughtless, if not reckless sexual intercourse.

I agree that the unheard of silent majority(maybe that's a stretch) of men are willing to stick around...

But there are still plenty of reasons why abortion must be legal... A man's willingness to stick around is a red herring in this debate...

What if it simply isn't the right time in a person's life?

Condoms break...

Birth control can fail...

To my way of thinking if it is acceptable to have abortions on tap as it were it is also acceptable to have euthenasia and the death penalty. If we can willy-nilly kill babies what is the problem with killing murderers or allowing the sick, old or just plain tired of living to make the choice (or have it made for them if necessary) to end their suffering???

Mags, I see your way of thinking. I am prolife and prochoice. As to the death penalty, I am against it. But I do believe that a criminal who has committed the kind of crimes that would warrant the death sentence, ought to be given the choice of dying.
Some may well find it a mercy to not serve a life sentence with a guilty conscience.

And abortion is different in that, the life of the unborn is not a life that is viably independent from a "host" ...

Personally I could not ever have an abortion. But that is my choice, because I am prolife. But I do not believe I should vote to override the beliefs and choices of others.

Well, I admit I can appreciate Mags' "by the bootstraps" approach to things. I think there IS far too much whining and need to be a victim and shirking of responsiblity in our society.

On the issue of abortion, I think not enough focus is on the males who knock women up and then run away. In our society, it's too easy for a guy to just "fire and forget" or "shoot and scoot", if you will.

I know if I had gotten a girl pregnant as a teen, my Old Man sure as Hell would not have let me get away with that.

Yes, I think abortion is repulsive and all to often just a waste of life.

But until we start teaching boys and young men in this society more responsiblity, we can't solve the problem by placing all the blame for "unwanted pregnancies" on women.

Hu? Trust the man is MADE to be responcible. They will take the cash striaght out of your pay check. They will take your license, pass port, ect ect. Eventualy they will put you in jail. LOL, think about that for a sec. A women can murder the child with no penelty what so ever, but they will put a man in jail for not supporting the child. Amazing.

It also doenst help that women are advertised as sex objects on TV, radio, bill boards, ect ect.
