That would have been my initial assesment, but the waffling on the part of the dems currently in office have disenchanted folks with them as well.

The Dems have an advantage right now, but it is not as big as it was a year ago.

How true. Knotty is right. It won't matter who wins next year, for we know it will be the democrats. I can't see any way that the GOP will win. We've (most of us here on the DTT board) have gotten tired of the GOP and their handling of the world (Iraq, Afghanistan, and the US) anyway.

It may not be as big now compared to a year ago, but still the polls favor the democrats for the most part.

The danger becomes (for the Dems) confidence in the current polls.

There needs to be action.

No he wouldn't be, he lacks experience both domestically and Internationally and this country cannot afford another guy who learns this job on the job IMO. His name should be changed to Obomber as far as I am concerned.

As for his race the fact that people keep having this discussion means it does matter. Much has been made of his African heritage. Everytime he is mentioned in a feature the words African or black are also mentioned in the article/feature. Yet I haven't heard tell of Romney's heritage or even Clinton.

Obama is really a success story for Immigrants..his father is an immigrant and as such he wasn't bought up with the lingering effect of slavery and certain racist politics. This is not to say he hasn't been effected by racism of course he has, but as his father is from a different culture and was never subject too America's past (it was his fathers choice to come here) he has been raised IMO with a slightly different attitude to the country as many 1st generation children of immigrants are: its more optimistic.

You can erase a lot of that "black vs. white" mentality by spending a bit of time overseas. My time in Japan broadened my horizons immensely. If everyone in this country had the opportunity to travel and get away from our media and mindset for about a year, this country would be a much better place to live. I have known some black women, and I'm sure there are whites too, who have hardly left the Atlanta area. That's sad.

That being said, there's no friggin way I'm voting for Obama or Clinton. I just don't like 'em. Especially Clinton. She just strikes me as shady.

Yes, Romney is Mormon; and the majority of America does not (and cannot) understand the Mormon way of life. Puligamy is just not acceptable to us-Black, White, or anything else you can put in the mix.
As far as the earlier comment saying Obama's name should be Obomber; that actually ties into the sad fact that Obama's name alone will not get him elected. It's too close to "Osama".

Really I have a black v white mentality...I really don't I have no idea why his race or anyone else is even discussed who cares I know I don't ...Other then the point he has used his racial heritage to his advantage because no-one would suggest a white male should run for President with such little experience....and good for him he is in a position to do so..I was hoping he'd keep to his original thoughts but he strayed and is a little wishy washy and shows his inexperience often. And his i was always against Iraq stance is just commical how easy to say when you were not actually there...

The other point is that no-one says Hilary Clinton a white woman although they do say woman, also Obama black (but not male) and Richardson hispanic but no-one mentions the white men for instance no one has said Romney a white male ....so race actually does matter as does gender which just shows our country is a tad backward. How many are we ready for a Black President or a Woman President (Pakistan had one for heavens sake) features have there been???

I've lived in many different countries and travelled to many places. Asia, Africa, Pacific Region, Europe and all over this country I have been very lucky. And I personally have no idea what somones race and gender have to do with their ability to lead. I think all politicans are shady to a certain degree..I like Edwrads but I don't believe he can win by himself although I wish he would..I'd like a Clinton/Edwards ballot personally because I think he'd balance out things a little at the top.. I like what he stands for
