For a long time, Milwaukee had the distinction of being the most racially segregated city in the country. My wife used to live there, and experienced that. She says people weren't overtly racist or racially violent, but each just sort of stuck to their own kind, and coexisted pretty peacefully. Chicago is more integrated. I love that I work for a company that values diversity. It's not uncommon for me to walk through the halls or sit in the cafeteria and hear conversations around me going on in three or four different languages. That's not to say there aren't racists in town, but it seems that we all get along pretty well. In any case, thanks for your thoughts on this. I guess, like with other forms of social progress, our best hope lies with the next generation.

I lived in Montgomery for a couple of years but that was in the seventies. There was still and awful lot of racial tension left over from the days of marches and boycotts then. I do know that the cities here are more racially diverse than the small towns and rural areas. As to how they all get along, it seems fairly well from the outside but I cannot speak as an insider. Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this. That's why I support the Pickens Plan. | I am sure you are right. But where I live it is still a pretty pervasive attitude. I'd be willing to bet that we still have Brooklyn beat if you are judging by per capita. | I've lived in Michigan and California, and have family in the south (Virginia and Kentucky). I have say, some of the worst racism I've ever witnessed was in Detroit.

In Detroit? From who whites or blacks? I have been here all my life. I can go back as far as the days the streetcars rode down the middle of Woodward (1940's & 1950s). Them days White was the rulers of Detroit, until the late 1950's when Blacks begin to move in, and guess what Whites begin to move out.....Now tell me who is the racist? Detroit was still full of racial attention which in 1967 triggered the rebellion. Now here we are in 2007 whites are now crying racism here in Detroit. So who is to be held responsibile? However here in Detroit there is alots of interracial relationships & friendships, but there is always a bad seed in all races that creates a problem, and our Late Mayor Coleman Young addressed the issue by saying if you don't like us then move across 8 mile. Now since it has been established that Detroit is a racist city, what about them small majority white cities that don't allow blacks in their city after dark? This can be Ann Arbor, Benton Harbor, West Bloomfield Hills (One have to make at least 140.000 a year to live there), and I won't mention the many small Michigan towns where the Klan & skinheads meet. So when we speak about racism we are not just talking about one race but a bunch of Races. In closing Jim Crow is still alive and well in the South.

| I believe you are confusing economics with racism. Needing a large income to live in certain cities isn't racist - I live in New Haven (a culturally diverse city), but about 30 minutes away is Greenwich (one of the most exclusive and expensive cities in the country). I can't live there either. I can't afford it. It has nothing to do with race. If I had several million dollars I could live there - as could any black man who had several million dollars. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance. damn time I will play the race card is when its being played. So it seems to me like you get your draws in a bunch whenever I defend what is being said about blacks, and yet you are in denial about racism being mentioned in the contents of these posts. If you can't stand the heat don't come into the kitchen, and that's how I feel about it. You are the one who posted that Detroit was the worse racist city, and I jumped to the defensive side. You are crying about racism in Detroit, but yet your kind (since you don't like me using the word white) is flooding downtown Detroit. So if you can't take it don't dish it out, due to the fact I have my rights to defend negative bs, and if you can't seem to understand that.....Oh well. I will always be me regardless to what you or anyone else seem to think about my posts. I am NOT ashamed of who I am or what my skin color is. | It amazes me that so far, the only person who seems to think race matters here, and who has a lot of racist views and overtones, is a black person... I certainly wasn't expecting that...
