Least offensive of the Republican party? Is that possible?

I'm not voting for those losers either. I meant the least offensive third party. I have a feeling the repubs are gonna win again if Hillary or Obama are on the ticket. Although Guliani sucks so bad, it might just work.

The democrats could put Mickey Mouse on the ticket and they would win. People have had it with Republicans.

I'm not so sure it's the "Republicans" that the public has had it with. I think it's more DUMAS Bush that we've had it with. Personally, I don't think the Democrats have done much better. Until someone comes up with a real plan for the Iraq situation, I'm not backing anyone.

Pulling out now isn't a valid option, someone needs to get with some real diplomacy.

I'll agree with you on that sir. One thing America still needs to learn is that sending our troops into foriegn countries is not something to be taken lightly. Too many people thought that Iraq was going to be a "Boy Scout Jamboree" lasting maybe a month-what a grave miscalculation. Our politicians do not seem to understand that there will always be a segment of America that is against American intervention anywhere, for any reason, and this will always create problems when such a situation arises.
I'm not a politician or a diplomat; I think our whole problem was in the lack of planning for this involvement. I believe that we failed miserably to plan for the "war termination" phase. America was caught up in removing Saddam Hussein from power- but we did not, and still don't understand the total control he had over every aspect of life in Iraq. And our politicians all talk as if they have the solution. Democrats blaming Republicans, but cannot offer a solution themselves; all the while forgetting that they also endorsed this misadventure. The real solution, as I believe, actually came from Bush Sr. during the time of Desert Storm, "The Iraqis may have to take things into their own hands". The fact that they did not attempt to should have been a signal to us then. Now, we are stuck in the quagmire of the Middle East politics, and there is no apparent way out. We cannot just pack up and leave- America would lose all credibility in the world. Vietnam, anybody?

Saddam did what he had to do to stay in control. He killed the people that he killed and did the things that he did so people wouldn't mess with him. In hindsight, he had to show SOME resistance to the UN inspectors or he would have come off as weak to his rivals. It looks like you HAVE to be either an actual nut or act like one to be a leader over there. Our war mindset and theirs is not compatible.

We are in for a long hard struggle. And if we were to leave, the vacuum would be disastrous with the NEW nutjobs trying to assert themselves.

I think he probably died laughing at the mess we have gotten ourselves into.

Correct again; with one addition. With our oil necessary economy; we must treat with such people whether we like them or not. I wonder just how many Americans remember that Saddam was our chosen ally during their war with Iran. America supplied much monetary and materiel support to Saddam then.
