| I would like to question the "white man" part of that quote. I understand why she might have said "white man", but really, she should have just said "a man" and her quote would have been a tad less like a "thing that makes me go hmmmm". | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Hmmmmm indeed lol. Maybe she was perplexed on why some were crying "cultural insensitivity". Maybe she wanted to point out that there weren't any blacks being hung on the display. Idk. Obama is a Socialist, racist Muslim who will tax us to death and McCain is a senile warmonger who will start WW3- Failtards. "Sooner or later, people are going to figure out if all you run is negative attack ads you don't have much of a vision for the future or you're not ready to articulate it."-Sen. John McCain, February 2000. I miss the old McCain... | |||||||||||||||||||||

| yes, its me ok, thanks for the plug on the site....here it is if you dont know... www.thedomesticdiva.com/spndoctr now as for my language, as i stated on my site, i will not apologize for it. now on the the matter at hand. its not the fact you guys are debating something completely and totally useless, its that you are debating it from your perspective. fact: yes, blacks were not the only ones hung. but blacks were the majority of the slavery issue, the civil war issue, the cotton issue, the lynching issue...i could go on and on. but here we are in 2007 and for you guys to say that im idiotic for looking at it from a black and historical perspective, to me is idiotic. what if, me as a black man, went and took a KKK uniform and strung it up in my yard as a sort of ironic halloween decoration. oh, how that would have went unnoticed? what if i placed a guilloteen (pardon the spelling) and put a body in it and placed a head in a basket...would that have caused a stir or not. or what if i took a naked dummy and made a prison scene from Abugraten (again, the spelling), who would have been pissed. now if none of those scenes would have offended you, then your not human or you just cant relate. as i said on my blog again, its not what was hanging, its the principal and history of hanging in THIS country to THESE people. the display was stupid and tastless and very insensitive. we do live in a touchy society and white people need to be checked like anyone else on what not to say or do that offends others. yes you have your rights and as long as you stay with in your rights then you can do whatever you want but if there is some sort of window where what you said or done offends another, then the consequences like protest, picketing, or boycotts...you deserve. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| one more thing... for someone who is black to say that there is nothing wrong with hanging is downright wrong. we didnt go through the hanging, the firehoses peeling off skin, the dogs attacks, the lynchings, the seperate restrooms for you to say that that type of cruelty is ok. for someone white to say they dont see anything wrong is the typical response where ignorance and naive behavior is the norm for white people. if you see anything wrong with hanging, then more power to you, God bless. its the people who are willing to be open, think from different perspectives, and learn that will change the world. but sadly, the world if full of the first 2. | |||||||||||||||||||||

I don't allow myself to get worked up over stuff like that. I feel that there are much more obvious acts of racism to deal with. Many of which are actually meant to convey a threat. There was nothing about THAT display that would lead me to think those people are "racist". If it was a trend or part of a history of racism from them, I may feel differently. But since no news reports indicated that these people have a history of such, I have no problem giving them the BOTD. Your language on your blog on the other hand DID offend me. As a person who goes out of his way NOT to be seen as "that angry black man" or that "uneducated black man" or "that thuggish black man", I find your stereotypical profanity on a blog such as yours to be infinitely more damaging to the black community than that scene in front of that house. In fact, the scene is gone yet your uncouth language remains for anyone to see. So IMHO the only person that demonstrated behavior that needed to be "checked" is you. You want to "check" something. Why not do a blog on who did the original nooses that brought about the Jena 6 controversy. Here are some other MUCH more obvious incidences of racism that are without a doubt intended as such.. Third noose found in Nassau public works garage -- Newsday.com STLtoday - News - St. Louis City / County Teachers College - Columbia University: News You wanna cuss and get pissed off, THAT is what you need to be pissed off about. An EMPTY noose is a much more graphic statement in my book than 3 dummies hung on Halloween. If they had been purposely made "black", I might agree. But I'm sorry, there are MUCH more obvious signs of racism out there to be pissed about...If that's your "thing". So IMHO, if what you want to do is help the black community with your bog, I recommend you "check yourself" on your language and quit perpetrating a stereotype of black men. Especially black men from the south. We have plenty of "Crunk music" stars out there to keep that one alive, why not show that at least a few of us can communicate intelligently? Larry the Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy aren't "in character" all the time. Oh yeah, I hope you hang aroung and participate. Last edited by fxashun; 10-19-2007 at 10:02 AM.

I don't think anybody would have said anything about any of those things. I know the largest Halloween display (which is unbearably tacky LOL) in my area has all kinds of ghouls, and ghosts, and zombies, etc. hanging from nooses (amid all the inflatable Halloween decorations and headstones and spider webs and ...). It is a black family - and I don't for ONE SECOND believe they think their display has ANYTHING whatsoever to do with slavery, civil rights or the plight of black Americans in today's society. They are simply decorating in the style of the holiday for their kids. The only way I would find these displays racist would be if the nooses held the ragged clothed figures of African American slaves. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance. Although my favorite trick-or-treaters were three teenage boys in drag. One was wearing a gorilla mask to hide his identity. Bother not the cat. For they are sneaky and will piss on thy keyboard.
