I think you're wrong.
I don't think anybody would have said anything about any of those things.

I know the largest Halloween display (which is unbearably tacky LOL) in my area has all kinds of ghouls, and ghosts, and zombies, etc. hanging from nooses (amid all the inflatable Halloween decorations and headstones and spider webs and ...). It is a black family - and I don't for ONE SECOND believe they think their display has ANYTHING whatsoever to do with slavery, civil rights or the plight of black Americans in today's society. They are simply decorating in the style of the holiday for their kids.

The only way I would find these displays racist would be if the nooses held the ragged clothed figures of African American slaves.
I agree with you Tristan. And everything Spin said in the bit you quoted, can actually be found in just about every Halloween Haunted House display one visits, as well as yard decorations of people of all ethnic races.

I can understand that some things should be pc...But there's also the aspect that one can go too far with expecting complete pc thinking. And certain people are just really over-reacting about that fellow's Halloween decorations and making more of it then it is, for nothing more then over exaggerated pc mentality.

He didn't put up anything racial. He put up HALLOWEEN MONSTERS, not represenative of any people or anyone's race. And to try and make it anything more then that, in my opinion, is silliness.

What's next? Anyone wearing a costume as a ghoul, space alien, and Frankenstine going to be accused of being a racist?

Watch out Casper...He's probally next on the hit list of 'it's just not pc'...

Hanging has been used since men learned to make rope...All over the world, in all cultures, and for a multitude of reasons. Even before Europe.

Mankind have been killing since they stepped out of the primoridial ooze. So focusing on just one blink in time, putting one instance above that of another, seems fruitless to me.

It's rather arrogant to assume that any reference to a hanged man MUST mean African Americans.

The fact that it's a display of the gallows is why it also really reminds me of the old west; outlaws, gunslingers, cowboys, train robbers, cattle thieves and all that. I don't think of the lynchings of backs by racists when I see the gallows, but maybe that's becuase i'm just an ignorant, naive white boy.

Now if it were a tree with a bunch of nooses hanging on it, then the ire a few (And I mean a few.) have over the Halloween decoration could be a little more justifiable.
