American Black folk can't seem to really get our collective asses in line.
Nutty, am I wrong in thinking this?
You are not wrong here, FX. We disagree on many things, but this is an area that we seem to be of the same thought and mind.
Many Blacks are still of "The White man is keeping me down" mentality. You and I both tried to explain this problem to a young man not that long ago. Many have yet to realize that the doors of opportunity that were shut to us years ago have been kicked open. But we still need to walk through those doors ourselves instead of waiting for somebody to yank us through. When we can finally shake off this last shackle of slavery; we can truly be free.

I'm glad we agree on that. That attitude is depressing. Sometimes it's hard seeing eye to eye with people on that. My sister is just coming around to that realization as she looks for a husband.

Good luck with that.
This is my new signature.

Yes, when I come across that attitude- and I do many times- I ask myself why it is so hard for some to still live in acceptance of the earlier days when Blacks were inhuman at worst, and ignorant at best.
I get in many arguments in my area trying to explain that we don't need to view ourselves in such terms. We can have anything, and achieve anything if we just make the effort to; and stop crying that Whites won't allow us to.
There is the old saying that "If you give a man a fish. you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for life".
It's a very true saying and outlook; but unfortunately, FX; some Blacks have added to this by thinking "but if somebody is giving you the fish, why should you bother to learn how to fish yourself"?
