Thanks, atleast there are a few people intelligent on this forum. Liberals are hypocritical when it comes to affirmative action, as well as, EVERYTHING else. I used to think that John Kerry changed with the wind, until I started to realize its the WHOLE party that does that. They sure do hate when you tell them the truth though....they cant handle it then.

But I do not truly think you hateful. You're just trying to present your opinion and express your frustration with your opponents. It happens all the time: everyone does it. That's debate. I just mean that you shouldn't be judging your opponent as hateful, just as they shouldn't be judging you as hateful. And I recommend not judging all liberals and atheists until you have talked with all of them. I am a liberal atheist, and in fact I agree with you on this issue. In my opinion, we should not give people preference based on race. Actually, I think we should not treat people any differently at all because of race. How is racism supposed to go away when our government is making a big deal out of race? How can it go away when people have different benefits and privledges under the law because of their race? Race needs to be understood for what it is: a difference in appearance no more important than hair color, and it needs to be treated as such. Understand that no individual has an inherent disadvantage because of his race. Being black doesn't mean you are less intelligent, less capable of performing a job, less capable of learning, or anything like that. Now I'm not trying to say racism doesn't exist, and I'm not trying to say black people don't face that problem. But if racism is preventing people from getting an education, let's ban that sort of racism. And if racism is preventing people from getting a job, let's ban that sort of racism. In most places, these things are already banned. This sort of law treats people of all races equally. It benefits blacks when they are being treated unfairly, but only when they are being treated unfairly. And it might also benefit whites if they are being treated unfairly. I'm also not trying to deny that it is tough living in the ghetto. But again, if the problem is the ghetto, let's fix the ghetto. Even if someone thinks the solution to the problem is an increased chance to get jobs or education, I don't see how they could possibly think that increased chance should be granted based on race. If we must have affirmative action, make it a "ghetto affirmative action" instead of a minority race one. Not all black people are from the ghetto, and not all white people are outside it. So if the ghetto is the problem, let's fix the ghetto. Let's not fix black people: black people aren't broken. Now maybe a program like this "ghetto affirmative action" would still benefit mostly blacks. And that is completely fine. If more blacks are from poor conditions, then more blacks may need help. The problem is when we start thinking that being black and being from the ghetto are the same thing. What do you guys think? -Jaxian

I'm guessing you have never experienced a ghetto area first hand and you live in a state that is so remote that a ghetto simply doesn't exist. I don't support the idea of AA, but considering this country does nothing for its poorest communities/ghetto I feel it is a necessary evil, especially considering the large amount of racism that still exists. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. I hear you, but this country does little to nothing to help our ghettos. If we could eliminate the ghettos we could eliminate AA. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. | I'm just getting in on this one. I voted undecided, because I don't know if we should be accentuating the differences between different groups of people, which I think affirmative action does. I don't think affirmative action is just about race. I feel that if someone does consider anything other than a person's qualifications when hiring or promoting someone, then it's a form of prejudice and I think that is wrong. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't people out there who let preconceived ideas about what other people are about get in the way of their judgement, so maybe there are still some out there that need affirmative action in place to be given a fair shot. One thing that I found out about lately, is that potential employers are requesting photos of people along with their resumes that they are considering for employment. How does what a person looks like tell you if they are qualified for a job? I think that leaves a door open for prejudice. I would hope that we as a nation of immigrants would be starting to accept each other as American citizens and putting aside the idea that we are anything else. Our Task must be to free ourselves... by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures, the whole of nature, and its beauty. I think we need to send more funding to help prevent ghettos, America would be much better off. I guarentee you that the crime rate would also go down. Godbless, Tadpole. “I am a Republican.
