It's probably just asking for trouble to weigh in on this topic, but so far there are only two groups of people on this forum.
1. people who support AA
2. racists

Apparently if you do not support AA, then you are a racist. That has been firmly implied quite a few times over the past few pages.

How bout this: If all men are equal, why don't we try hiring and distributing social aid money equally? Those who want to suceed will try harder than those who don't care. Let the cream rise to the top. Let the rest see themselves being passed by, and they will try harder.
I think it's a pretty insulting notion, that one race needs their hand held to make their way through life.
And before people go telling me how hard it is, and I just don't know, and bla bla bla... let me tell you about myself.
I was raised in a lower middle class suburb, always struggled in school, and never had SHIT handed to me. I left home when I turned 18, and joined the navy. In the Navy I advanced well, and am currently putting myself through college, while on active duty.
This exact scenario is possible for any man or woman of any race.
When people have success handed to them, they begin to feel entitled to that treatment. It's time we pulled the teat out of the lower class mouth and start CARING.
I firmly agree that the whole AA system gives the appearance that government feels like minorities are essentially less capable beings.
If you want to call me a racist for having the opinion that blacks and other minorities are just as capable as whites, go ahead. Prove your ignorance.

The problem is that children do not get fair children from the start (i.e. inner city schools) so they need unfair treatment later on in life. I am not a racist at all. All I'm saying is that all children, where ever they live and whatever they look like deserve the same education, school services, and activities. If everyone has equal opportunity to begin with, then we won't need programs like affirmative action to diversify on the other end.
But it don't take much to get me by
So just booze me up and get me high

for christ's sake
Screw affirmative action. I'm sorry, but I don't support it. I lean mostly in the liberal direction, but it just seems wrong in our modern time. People should be accepted for "the content of their character" not by "the color of their skin."

Besides, all those white people who whine about affirmative action wouldn't have an excuse for why they didn't get into the college of their choice if it wasn't around. :P

I'm degrading? How so? Because I describe a group of people? I'm not basing it solely off race... you have plenty of Slim Shady wannabes as well.. and let's not forget the white trash of America who just wants to sit back and get wasted. I am not biased to any race. I'm biased against people's way of living. Raising kids to be druggies and theives and alcoholics and lazy bastards is what I'm against. Crawl out of the hole.. strive for something! I may not be too poor now, but I've been there... I've scraped for pennies, payed rent way late, eaten nothing but crackers or ramen noodles once a day if I was lucky. I've been in debt and I pulled myself out. I made sacrifices and worked my a** off. I still don't have much money and I still depend on my paychecks to get by. I wish I had more money, but I want to earn it myself.

Go ahead... make assumptions about me. I'm not some rich little white girl whose mommy and daddy pay for everything. I'm working everyday to get somewhere in life instead of depending on handouts and free money. Like I said before, I don't even qulaify for financial aid, and I'm still making it ok.
