That is part of the problem, yes. And i do not understand how age has anything to do with this, and no i am older than 17... And i actually do have very developed views about life and society they are just different than yours

Affirmative Action is wrong... simply put. how can it be right? I understand that some people don't get great educations in elementary and high school... that calls for a change in education. And I'm sure it doesn't help that each year thousands of teachers in inner city school are pink slipped which means bigger classrooms for kids to be in... which ultimately results in poor education. I don't believe Affirmative Action will fix this... how can it? So they can enter into college knowing the bare minimum and have everything go over their heads? Sure, they can work hard but the truth is the majority don't. If they honestly cared, they would've studied harder for the SAT/ACTs and we could just admit them based on test scores. Plus there are plenty of colleges that will take pretty much anyone... if someone is so concerned with not getting the right education, then go to a state school that will let you in with what you scored, work your butt off, and prove that you can do it.. then transfer to a better school... Or how about, after getting your test scores back and seeing that they're low, work on your weaknesses and take it again. You can start the test in what? Junior year? That gives you plenty of time to make them better... don't cry about not getting the right education... learn for yourself. I didn't learn a lot of what was on the SATs, but took time out of my life to become familiar with it...

So because I put extra effort into my grades and test scores, someone who is black or hispanic shouldn't? They should just be admitted in because of their race? How is that fair? It's not... it's called reverse discrimination, or even more simply... just discrimination. You talk about how there's still all this racism going on in the world today... but honestly I don't see it as much as my parents did. I work with a bunch of black people who strive for excellence... who went to inner city schools and got less education, yet still did fine on their tests and are working their butts off in school now. So aren't you being racist by saying they can't do it? I know it can be done.. you just have to want to.

Why is it that Asians, who were greatly discriminated against (esp. in the 1980s) are able to do fine on their tests? We even put them in internment capms in WWII and they don't get special treatment... that was more recent that slavery and they don't complain... perhaps they recognize that it was a bad time in our past but it didn't happen directly to them... And why are Hispanics included in the AA? We didn't have a big slave trade with them hundreds of years ago... and I believe RWE said something about the Jewish people... they were treated horribly for how long and they're not included in AA. We had all this discrimination against other minorities and somehow they were able to pull themselves up and better themselves. They didn't live in the past and keep complaining and expecting handouts... they got out there and worked their butts off for it, just like I have to.

I don't think I should have to give up my spot in college or my shot at a job because another person is black... I've worked really hard to get where I am today and I don't think I should have to miss out becuase of some quota. It's outdated and it needs to go... same goes for women...I'm a girl and I don't think a guy should miss out on a chance for a job if he is better qualified than me. He worked to get there... and it doesn't matter if he went to a better school or what not... the important thing is, he's more qualified so he should get the job. Same goes for race... I don't care what race you are... if you're not qulaified, you're not hired and you're not getting in. Work harder and try again.

I could go on and on, but I won't... I know I'll get flamed and personally, I don't care. I think the Liberals are so ignorant on this issue, ( and props to you Libs that don't buy into it.) Come on people... quit living in the past. Perhaps if the handouts went away, racism would too. There wouldn't be anger about missing out on opportunities, and people might actually start working to get where they want to go.

No, I'm saying they don't have equality when compared to schools in more wealthy areas. Their schools are under funded and falling apart when they shouldn't be. They don't have an equal opportunity and that is what AA is all about...

Do I wish AA wasn't necessary. HELL YEAH! But until things change in this country it is a must.

yet they have kids who excel if they want and are able to get out of those schools, my friend todd for example, he is in my speech class and he gave a speech about if someone wanted to get out of where they were here in america they could, and he had these awards he got in highschool for great grades and his scholrship he got for writing a paper. All it is is the drive and determination..

The point is people shouldn't have to escape these places! And there are many, many, many who simply can't!
