Hey man, we even had horseless carriages and indoor plumbing. Speaking of organ.... I teamed up with this one guy who played keyboard and sax. He had this idea of going into these small towns in Iowa (it was 1981 and we were in a deep recession) and charging all the businesses in town $40 a piece and us putting on a show and advertising the businesses right in the middle of July and August. We played a little gospel and kid songs. He was also a ventriloquist and I was a clown who made balloon animals. I think we made exactly enough to cover expenses and buy a steak dinner. Lot's of fun.

Good lord, quit being so insanely stupid. You've already got your head stuck so far up your butt you're going to have a hard time EVER seeing the light of day again.

So the blacks that attend one church and the whites that attend another live in the same neighborhood you think?

Go back 3 months after their church is rebuilt and let us know what happened.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I think it might be because people like Hevusa honestly believe that government intervention is the ONLY solution to anything. They also can't believe that there really are very smart, successful and financially progressive blacks - such as there are at this church. And they're determined to read "arson" into a black church burning down, when the fire marshall had determined that it was faulty wiring.

It's a blind belief system that makes decisions without facts, and clings to pre-civil rights movement mentality. After all, what's Jesse Jackson supposed to do with himself now?

They're also stupid enough to believe that only whites can be racially prejudiced and bigotted.

Being a "nebraskaboy", I assume you're aware that Omaha is actually VERY racially mixed - with MANY blacks who are very active and integrated into the community, and are very successful. Many of them are far wealthier than their white counter-parts.

It really is. I know a black man who teaches American Government at Metro who worked personally with Bush Sr, and Jr.
Godbless, Tadpole.

I actually grew up in the MidWest in Kansas, close to the Nebraska border. My sister lives in Nebraska.

Omaha is "racially mixed", but it's extremely ATYPICAL of the state demographics.
http://www.fedstats.gov/qf/states/31000.html

Omaha is 13.3% black. The nation is 12.8% black.
But the STATE of Omaha is only 4.3% black.

The next biggest city that I could find percentage-wise black in Nebraska is Bellevue with 6.1%. Then Lincoln with 3.1%. The next three big cities listed (Kearney, Fremont, Grand Island) have 0.6%, 0.6%, and 0.4% (respectively).

Crunching the numbers and comparing them to the total population of the state, we see that 39.3% of the Nebraska white population live in those afore-mentioned cities, while 83% of the Nebraska black population live in those cities.

Growing up in the heart-land, I can attest to the fact that racism is alive and kicking in the area on both sides of the Nebraska / Kansas border. And considering the black population is primarily under-represented in most areas of the heart-land, I doubt it will change any time soon because of the story that Jefferson described...
If anybody is trying to take Omaha as an indicator of how things are going in the Midwest, then they aren't getting the full picture...

Yes. I believe that's the point.

Thank you for sharing.

So Nebraska is comprised of two major cities and a bunch of farmers. Kinda like South Dakota is comprised of one major city and a bunch of farmers.

What's your point, other than to expose your prejudices and arrogant condescending attitude toward midWesterners?

Ignorant is right. It's a full-time job for liberals to try to pain every white persson as a racist except themselves.

I'm always amazed by people who ask "what's your point" who can't comprehend the simple English which explicitly explained the point.

To repeat it again for the slow members of the class... (Alias? That means you too if you even bother to read...)

The issues of Omaha are unique and atypical of most areas of the Midwest. The black population of Omaha is much higher than anywhere else in Nebraska.

And despite the nice story Jefferson told, I can attest to the fact that racism is alive and kicking in the Midwestern states. That isn't "prejudice" towards them. That's not "arrogant" or "condescending". Just a statement of fact.

Why is that so hard for you to admit to?
Why are you so desparate to avoid acknowledging this?

It's interesting to note that you don't deny it, but rather you complain about me when I note it.

Tell us how the high black population of Omaha in relation to the rest of the state equates to racism. There are more blacks in Minneapolis and St. Paul than the rest of Minnesota by far. Blacks are almost nil outside of the twin cities. Is Minnesota, the bastion of liberalism, racist also?

You're just ignorant of history. After the slaves were freed, they headed north to the cities where the jobs were. That's why Washington DC is almost totally black. Jobs were created in the government to provide employment for blacks. All major cities in the USA have more blacks than rural areas unless you go down south were you will find a lot more black farmers. You see no black farmers in the north because those lands didn't have slaves. Read a history book.
