But to deny the fact and the extremes to which the White Western Society went to end slavery is to deny the very same things. Britain sailed the seas to end slavery, the United States fought a civil war. Furthermore to claim in today's society that only those of the white race can be racist is to deny racism altogether. Racism is prejudice against an individual based upon the individual's race, period. Any other requirements make the claim null and void.

did not say you did, I am talking about this idea of being nice to blacks because of the slave trade..all race's at one time were slaves, even whites, so we as a nation shouldn't be sensitive about anything to do with slave. I have many black friends and they don't like to use slavery as a crutch..they just want to be treated like man..

I do not deny that racism can go both ways.

And I do not deny what a few whites went through to end slavery. I think it's highly naive, however, to think that whites ended racism and slavery. The civil war wasn't fought over slavery. It was over a number of things, including the preservation of the union and state's rights. The union winning the war obviously boosted the end of slavery quicker, but union soldiers weren't fighting over ending slavery. Racism in this country ended, and a relative public conscience and respect for other races only emerged after a civil rights campaign led by African-American leaders.
