More Democrats than Republicans voted for civil rights in both chambers of Congress.
If we were to omit the Southern votes, the Dems would have had a higher % voting for the bill than the Republicans. It was a regional divide, not by party.

If you can remember back, there were more Democrats than Republicans in the House and Senate. Too bad a majority vote rests in the percentage of people rather than the amount of people which makes your argument null and void. |

Republicans, percentage-wise, voted for the bill than against it than the Democrats, I'm not disputing that. However it is also true that Democrats provided the majority of "yes" votes for the bill.
And as for this racist stuff, anyone who did call you a racist, if anyone actually did, was wrong. | |

It is the percentages that count: the Dems had a significantly lower percentage of "yes" votes for the bill. If there was one Rep. senator and 99 Dems and only 2 dems voted for the act, you could make the exact same statement that you did. C'mon.
The original House version:
Democratic Party: 152-96 (61%-39%)
Republican Party: 138-34 (80%-20%)
Cloture in the Senate:
Democratic Party: 44-23 (66%-34%)
Republican Party: 27-6 (82%-18%)
The Senate version:
Democratic Party: 46-21 (69%-31%)
Republican Party: 27-6 (82%-18%)
The Senate version, voted on by the House:
Democratic Party: 153-91 (63%-37%)
Republican Party: 136-35 (80%-20%)
Then again, which party voted for an act 46 years ago really doesn't matter at this point in time, does it? As I've said before, there should be a limitations period for getting credit for something, or sympathy for being a victim of something. Whatever goodwill the Republicans deserve for how they voted in 1964 is completely immaterial today. | |

But that wasn't the case was it? I understand where you're going , but that example is a bit ridiculous lol. My point was that it wasn't like Democrats as a party weren't fighting this tooth and nail and only a handful voted for the bill, same goes for Republicans.
