There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

I agree with you there, Knight. AA needs to be based on need, not skin pigmentation. Addressing the ills of mankind is more important that just helping out one set of people.

THAT attitude is exactly where the problem lies. Why would we need to help a particular 'type' of poor people first? Why choose a group?

Just poor people...

a nice paying job, but what you do not know about is the struggle
or the hardship that was put before us, and I see you do write 10
line sentences before you mark a peroid.

I believe that Affirmative Action was voted down. Because other
races begin to complain that blacks was discriminating against you
whites....(what a laugh). As the Sgt mentioned AA did not cover
the poor black & white (ghetto) neighborhoods. Because even the
poor whites had to leave their high class communities, and when
that happened automatically they became rejects.

Why is there arguements and debates about Affirmative Action?
Both races is screaming Discrimination. So how should this issue
be solved peacefully?

How do we solve it peacefully??? First, we should end the idea that we need to judge on race. Racism is the belief that someone is of lesser worth solelybecause of their race. Affirmative action based on race is the belief that someone needs help solely because of their race. Affirmative action was to make up for the evils of the past. What a noble idea, however, today it no longer makes sense.

Tell me, truthfully, does a black college student from a middle class family earning over $100,000 a year need help getting into college more than a white college student from a lower income family earning only $40,000.

Let us base affirmative action on economic conditions. This levels the playing field even more because it seeks to redress the problems of the economic disparities. Every study by the Census Bureau has shown, that it is economic situation rather than race that has more effect on the outcome of people's lives.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

Thank you Sarge. Listen carefully here, people. Stop basing AA on skin color and start basing it upon need.
Maybe I sound like a cynic here; but being African-American and wealthy allows me to see both sides of the fence.
Do I remember the days when African-Americans were in all circumstances treated as less than human, when society looked upon us as the root of all evils of America? Yes, I do. Are there isolated instances of this today? Yes, there are.But I truly believe that society has advanced in it's thinking and realizes now that truly every man can be the master of his own destiny.I can say that because I have achieved that point in life. I also was near my town's unemployment office today (my lawyer is two blocks away) and lately I have been seeing more and more whites there. That tells me that everybody, irregardless of color, is suffering economically, losing jobs due to any number of reasons, and all need help at such times. Let us stop the thinking that AA is only for African-Americans. As long as we can all suffer, it can and must be based upon need and not that skin color that a small portion of society still is fixating on.

All I have to say is I admire the two of you for your words here. Your words reflect many of my own thoughts on this subject.

Never prune the flower from the plant because it MIGHT be ugly. Much better to look at it and make your decisions based on what is really there.

Considering the economic strata that currently exists in the US, a good number of people that would be helped would be minorities. Yes, this is a reality. Basing AA PURELY on color is actually a disadvantage to the people of color that have been able to achieve on their own merits.

I have no problem with AA. I have a huge problem with people using it as a "crutch". It is high time people stop looking for excuses and start looking as to how to achieve what one desires in life.
