That is sad. I knew a policeman who told me that they are often bored. We think it is a job filled with excitement and a fight for justice and protection of citizens. But it is a very subjective job and they can pick and choose how to use their authority.

Probably how come I get parking tickets!

All I have to say is that the cop didn't have a very good taste in music. . . "A Change is Gonna Come," by Sam Cooke is an awesome tune!

My question is this, the article mentions that he had been asked to stop singing 5 prior times prior to being arrested after the sixth. Is this true, and if it is, why didn't he stop??

Did the police over react, probably, however, if he was asked six times to stop singing, and that a permit was required for musical performances in the park, it would seem he pushed his luck just a bit too far.

But it was a public park. You need a permit to sing in a public area now. I know that you need a permit in certain confined public areas such as subway and train stations in my city because it makes it hard for people to hear important announcement and the accoustics problem too. But this was out in the open...if you cant sing out in the open then you need to go around to every homeless and poor man around every town and city who is holding a musical instrument trying to earn a few buck and toss them in jail too.

The article stated:

Quote:
A Fairmount Park official said park rules prohibit any "musical presentations" in the park without a permit.

The article also mentions the fact that it was not only the one individual but also two additional band members as well. Did you even take the time to read the article?? Or did you just assume?

He wasn't making a musical presentation... He was singing... He wasn't putting on a show or any such. And if that is the law, which is currently in question here in Philly, then it needs to be ammended to allow people to sing if they want. This cop crossed the line. When Mr. Porter asked what the law said the cop told him "I make the law"... And that is obscene.
