Joan Baez Banned at Walter Reed Hospital

Since we have a new "Freedom of Speech" Forum, I thought this one may just fit in here. . .

That is a shame and their loss.

And quite incredulous!

What? Who would have thought that soldiers would want to hear sing someone who does not support something they themselves believe in? Joan Baez has the right to say whatever she wants to say about the War, hell she can even sing about it. However, a captive audience has the same right to say we don't want to hear her sing.

This is not a freedom of speech issue, but rather one of taste.

Taste? I think most of the soldiers there have asked themselves what was the purpose of Iraq. They see the chaos and the population not wanting them there..

Joan Baez is 66 years old, most of the soldiers are in their twenties and probably never heard of her.

Who wants to listen to some old granny sing when they're in hospital??

If my kids are any indication of what the new cool is, it is the oldies!

My fourteen year old and all his buddies love the oldies, especially The Beatles, or Tommy James and the Shondells...

And my daughter and a number of her friends, she is 21, all listen to music like Billie Holiday, BB King, Ray Charles.

Of course they all listen to the contemporary stuff too, but they all seem to have a certain enjoyment for the Golden Oldies.

I wonder if American Idol has made for less of a generation gap in music than there was back in the day that I was a young 'un.

Yeah, she just wouldn't have fit in with a John Mellencamp concert. He is only 56.
