| An American Perspective............ BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Holiday girl abducted, police say Our newspapers are full of this story at the moment. I wasn't sure where else to put this thread but chose the Capital Punishment one as that is what should happen to the abductor. I would be interested in the American view on the parent's behaviour in leaving the child (3 children actually) as on top of sympathy and concern for the little girl there is a reasonable amount of bad feeling circulating over here regarding the parent's and their apparent lack of responsible behaviour. | |||||||||||||||||||||

When I kept my nephews when they were that age, either the child(ren) or the exit to the room the child(ren) was (were) sleeping in was in line-of-sight at all times. And I still came close to losing one a couple of times. They are like quicksilver at that age. I cannot even imagine leaving them alone like that. I hope child protective services is going to have a "discussion" with these parents about improving their parenting practices. Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this. That's why I support the Pickens Plan. Check out the website at www.pickensplan.com. | I think Americans feel the same way about this that they do when they read about an American parent who left their child in the car when they go in to shop in the summer and the child dies from heat exhaustion. Stupidity in parenting knows no one single country. I cannot imagine what they are going through, however. It would make you nuts in about 30 minutes, I would imagine. I hope things turn out all right. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| When I was about 18,I stopped at a friends apartment. He never locked the door and had told me to just walk in at anytime. This guy had custody of his child (the mother just walked out).I walked in,looked around and was ready to leave when I saw the baby in the crib with nobody at home.I asked the neighbors when Kevin had left and they said about 45 minutes before. Not wanting to be arrested for kidnapping,I left and went to the police station to report this. They went to the apartment and were there for about 20 minutes when the babys father came home. He lied and said he was not gone that long. Not having enough proof they left the baby with him but Social Services was notified. I do not know what happened after that except that this guy came up to me in a bar and threatened my life. That never happened again and I have not seen nor heard from him again. My only comment is Stupid people should not breed. | |||||||||||||||||||||
