For my money, this means that the republicans will start distancing themselves even further and possibly allow the Iraq War bill to pass in an override for withdrawal times for our troops.

Just goes to show you, smarter Americans are paying attention.

I hope so. I'd say if they're thinking about 2008 they will.

I hope you are right but I believe that George Bush and the Republican Party will drag the entire U.S.A. straight to Hell. This has been the Republican Party's goal since it was created. I think this time they have succeeded.

Would you care to back up your accusation with some fact or are you just going to post your rhetoric without something to back that up?

It started with this little thing called the Civil War, which did not need to be fought. Here again is where the Republicans told their constituents the Civil War would last 6 months tops. Sound familiar. I suggest you not be so lazy and study what the Republican Party has done since it's creation.

Do you have any facts to back up your statements that the Republicans told their constituents that it would last 6 months?if so please post a link.
And by your statement that the Civil War need not be fought,I take it that you are saying that slavery is OK seeing that abolishing slavery is the main reason it was fought in the first place.
Also, answer a question for you. Which side fired the first shot that started the war? That should tell you who started it in the first place.

Like I have already pointed out, you are ignorant of U.S. History. The Civil War was not fought to end slavery. The Republicans had no intention of abolishing slavery, their goal was to destroy the Democratic Party. Abolishing slavery was never mentioned by the Republicans until the Gettysburg Address. The Civil War was already two years old. Abolishing slavery was just a Republican scam to destroy the Democrats black labor force. To sweeten the pot the Republicans promised every slave forty acres and a Mule if they rebelled against the Democrats. Those poor black people are still waiting on that forty acres and that Mule.

I am all for pulling out the troops from Iraq but a timetable for the withdrawl of the troops is utterly pointless...Yes lets announce when we are leaving the country so as soon as the last soldier steps outside of the border the rockets fly once again. The War Spending bill should be passed but the withdrawl timetable should not be made.

Whenever we pull out the insurgents are obviously going to know about it, whether it's in 6 months or 10 years

We will probably end up re-deploying a substantial force to nearby bases in Qatar and Bahrain, and focus on patrolling the borders and using aerial superiority

You can bet there will stil be 50,000+ US troops in or near Iraq 50 years from now, Korea style
