Points: 17,949, Level: 85 | Level up: 86%, 401 Points needed | | Tell the FDA to Label Irradiated Food! It's baffling to think the nuclear industry and the global food industry would ever be linked. But they are.
Right now, food treated with ionizing radiation must be labeled as "Treated with irradiation" or "Treated by radiation." But according to Food and Water Watch, the irradiation industry wants to misleadingly label these foods as "electronically pasteurized" or "cold pasteurized.”
Many serious health problems have been observed in lab animals fed irradiated foods, including premature death, cancer, tumors, stillbirths, mutations, organ damage, immune system failure and stunted growth. In one experiment, genetic damage was detected in young children who ate irradiated wheat. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takea...ltl=1179804766

"electronically pasteurized" or "cold pasteurized," which is misleading.
For years, the irradiation industry has had a problem convincing consumers to buy irradiated food. The industry's solution? Don't tell them it's irradiated.
Right now, food treated with ionizing radiation must be labeled as "Treated with irradiation" or "Treated by radiation." The irradiation industry wants to label these foods as "electronically pasteurized" or "cold pasteurized," which is misleading.
Studies have shown irradiation depletes the nutritional content of food and leaves behind chemical byproducts that can lead to promotion of cancer growth and genetic damage. Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906
