Defending the Truth

I believe that the members of the Military should be exempt from income tax, at all times. The pay for the Military comes from income tax, so it seems unfair that they should be partially paying themselves.

Furthermore, I believe that it will serve as an additional, much needed, and well deserved incentive for service. Right now the Military represents less than 1% of the total population... I am sure we can afford it.

I can see the point about it being an incentive, Tad. However, what about all the other roles that income tax funds? Wouldn't public servants in all fields be able to use the same argument that since their pay comes from income tax, they shouldn't be partially paying themselves?

I think it should be a special incentive for those who can be sent to war zones, or asked to die for their country... Perhaps minicipalities should make their police & firemen exempt from local taxes...

But as for bureaucrats and desk jockies... I think not...

I think maybe exempting the military might be a good idea. But approaching it with that argument does not seem like a good tactic.

The incentive idea seems more viable to me.

I just think that particularly in these times when so much stress is being placed on the Military, it would be a great way to say "Thank you"

Even I have to take my hat off to this idea, but we still need to rise thier pay by atleast 30 to 50%.

Agreed... I'd say about 30%, and maybe a 10% Kicker for those actually serving in a combat zone...

When I was in the Army we got pay more for going into combat, which military are you in??

I am in the Navy. The rules are the same across the board. We still get Combat Pay, (Hazardous Duty / Imminent Danger Pay). That much hasn't changed.

Do you still get Sea Pay? When I was in it was $13/month. When reagan got elected we got an 11% raise and Sea Pay went up to $140/month.

We should give all the military a big raise and exempt anyone that serves in a combat zone from paying taxes for the rest of their life.
