i used to be really interested in studying sharks, and this just rekindled my interest. They're probably the most complex organism on earth to reproduce asexually. It's astonishing.

I like sharks

It is very interesting.

It's amazing. Kinda cuts into chills when you remember the friend-sayings of your puberty years, like "Don't sit on the toilet after a pregnant woman does or you'll get pregnant."

I saw this thread last night. I went to the link to read, and did not return to post a comment here. But I was impressed and sent the link to a few of my email buds.

One wrote back this morning, and so not my schtick, but said, "Betcha a number of women wish they too could get pregnant without a man!"

Still, I do suppose that adaptation and survival are huge factors in the evolutionary processes of procreation.

This is kind of a mixed blessing. On one hand, it may lead to a greater shark population, which is needed for the ecosystem, but less diversity in genes means more inbreeding and more chances at defects, which isn't all that good, either. I don't know if this is something any shark can do, though. For all we know it's some kind fo mutation.

It turns out that this shark is actually carrying the shark version of Jesus.

Wow, that's really intriguing. I remember watching a program once about how in very rare circumstances, women can reproduce without sex. Of course, it's a 1 in millions anomaly, but I still thought it was cool.
