I think the patient was and still is too self-involved to understand that upon hearing the news; he should have taken it personally to impose quarantine upon himself. The CDC at that point can now have worked out a safer quarantine procedure to execute.
The reason air travel is a problem in cases like this is because it provides a convenient and quick method of spreading the contagion. The patient should have exercised better judgement.

I think Andrew Speaker is to blame for this for using very bad judgement in travelling to Europe in the first place. He should have rescheduled his wedding in the United States. He was indeed advised not to fly.

I agree, PN. You would think that the very fact that he took a TB test would have formed in Mr. Speaker the idea not to go jump on a plane. Again, I think he was just thinking about himself and his own possible problems with a postponement of the wedding.
People, are we that self involved now, that we risk lauching a plague internationally; just because common sense might upset our personal timetables? I'm hoping this is an isolated case- of the TB and the stupidity.

The problem with TB tests are this, they identify exposure only. When I take a TB test I come up positive, I have been exposed to TB, yet I am not a carrier nor do I myself have the disease.

From all reports it would seem that the Doctors were more at fault than Mr Speaker. They should have pointt blank told him that he should not travel. There are people who everyday travel that have TB.
