Level up: 41%, 117 Points needed | | Immigration: My Opinion This article, originally published by an anonymous person, has been floating on the web for awhile. It basically sums up my opinion on the Immigration issue.
Story in Tampa Newspaper
"Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice ??????
Think about it
All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that.
This says it all!
This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper.
He did quite a job; didn't he?
Read on, please!
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we
are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11,
we have experienced a surge
in patriotism by the majority
of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had
barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about
the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by
coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there
are a few things that those
who have recently come to
our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a
multicultural community
has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we
have our own culture, our
own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, If you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language!
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women,
on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.
It is certainly appropriate to display it
on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you
consider another part of the world as
your new home, because God is part
of our culture.
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or
you don't like Uncle Sam, then you
should seriously consider a move
to another part of this planet. We
are happy with our culture and have
no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where
you came from. This is
OUR COUNTRY,
our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the
right to express his opinion and we
will allow you every opportunity to do
so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag,
our pledge, our national motto, or our
way of life, I highly encourage you
take advantage of one other great American freedom,
THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
It is Time for America to Speak up
AMEN |

My Aunts husband (my Uncle) came to America more than 50 years ago from China, yup he speaks English too. He also makes a mean egg roll and the best Char Siu Bao even though he speaks English and became a citizen.

While the majority of the founding fathers could be considered 'Christian', they purposefully wanted religion kept out of government.
All the 'in God we trust' and 'one nation under God' was put in during the 'red scare' of the 1950's. Communism was a big worry then, and it was thought that putting in references to God would weed out potential communists.
I do believe that people coming to this country should learn English. If I were to move to, say, France, I certainly would expect to have to communicate with the people that live there. |

When I was growing up, I knew a lot of the old second generation Germans. Some of them told of speaking only German at home because their parents never learned to speak much English, usually just enough to get by.
In working on the family genealogy, I learned that the Lutheran & Catholic Churches and the local government in my town were run bilingually until the 1940s when associating oneself or one's town too closely with Germany became "un-American" and dangerous.
Every last one of the descendents of those old Germans speaks English today. And only a few still speak any German.
If you look at Hispanic families where the adults do not speak English, you will almost invariably find that the children do. They have to if they ever want to be able to go out into the general population and make their way. I believe that unless the Hispanics one day outnumber the English speakers in the U.S., second generation Americans will continue to learn English and become Americanized.
Resistance on their part is futile and all the fretting about it own our part is also futile.

| These changes were made to make people of other religions feel better, not immigrants. Most immigrants to our nation are Christian. Furthermore, no one is stopping you from saying whatever you want. "Season's Greetings" isn't even related to our laws at all, it's just something stores choose to say.
People say "Winter Vacation" and "Season's Greetings" because they don't want to give preference to Christians. You may not think it's a big deal, but it can be very disheartening to feel like your religion is inferior to other religions. So instead of centering our government around one religion: we try to make it generic enough for people of any religion.
So now you're saying that if Christians don't get preference, you're offended? Well, maybe you want to be treated better than everyone else, and maybe someone else wants to be treated better than you. The best we can do is be as fair as possible. You'll have to settle with equality. Quote:

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
| That's because in some cases, our "patriotism" was offending others. Or worse. Sometimes our "patriotism" took the form of hating France, and creating "freedom fries" instead of "french fries". Sometimes our "patriotism" took the form of discriminating against Muslims.
You call it patriotism, but it was something else. Hating others isn't the same thing as loving your country.
And again, this has nothing to do with immigrants. Quote: |

As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
| People didn't fight wars to preserve our culture and our language. They fought wars to save lives and protect freedom.
Culture changes. And if we discover that our culture discriminates against people, then that culture isn't worth preserving.
Also, the mention of our "sovereignty" appears to be nothing more than an attempt to throw in a big word. Our sovereignty has not been affected by any of this. Quote:
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language.
Therefore, If you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!
| I think this is the one part which actually does have to do with immigrants.
I have no problem with all of our government documents being recorded in English. But if someone else wants to speak Spanish in our country, then let him speak Spanish. What do you care? Quote:
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented.

| This one again has nothing to do with immigrants.
"In God We Trust" was chosen by political officials in order to improve their political ground. It is a slogan which implies that everyone in the nation believes in God, and thus it discriminates against Atheists.
Should we just sit back and laugh at the misfortunes of Atheists, or should we strive to make everyone equal?
I feel this article is really just saying, "Yeah, we're treating some people like dirt. So what? If they don't want to be dirt, they shouldn't live in America." Quote:
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. | And this really sums it up. If you want equality or freedom, then leave America.
Stores saying "Season's Greeting's" instead of "Merry Christmas" causes you no inconvenience. Our government changing the national motto causes you no inconvenience. Allowing people to speak their own language causes only minor inconvenience, if any at all.
Aren't equality and freedom worth accepting these things?
This article brings up a lot of irrelevant talk about patriotism and culture, but it's nothing more than a clever way to hide the truth. The author is saying we should treat other people unfairly, and he's got no good reason for it.

Yes, you are right. Republicans are definitely on the side of the lower classes. That's why they are trying to wipe them out. |
