In Texas people walk around showing off the guns on their belts as if the guns are the best accessory besides their cowboy hats. This is not just a stereotype or a myth. People here in Texas, even here in the city of Dallas, walk around with guns on their belts.

it is scary to walk into a Starbucks and see 6 ft tall large men totting guns within a foot of you. I think that guns today have taken on a life of their own, and socoiety needs to be aware of the danger in guns and the images that guns portray to America's youth.

I think you are ignorant on this subject. Guns are just a tool, and the day we lose the right to own them is the day I will leave this country and never look back. I am not fighting for this country so my rights can be further restricted. What we need is more gun education. Whereas I think it is a bit odd that so many people would exercise their right to bear arms in the open, I do not believe that alone is having any negative impact on youth. Just like sex, we must educate our youth about guns, not hide it from them.

I despise guns. There has never been a good reason to have guns. They only create more violence and makes the world a shittier place to live in. Unfortunately, guns will prsoper in the U.S. and there is nothing we can do to stop the distribution of guns in the U.S.

How is it that all of you continue to put the blame squarely on the tool rather than the user? You'd all really be willing to take away my rights, as a responsible gun user, just to punish the few irresponsible users because you choose not to exercise said rights? Such a shame... My Great Uncle (God rest his sole), owned a large farm and 100 acres of land on a mountain in Vermont. He very much enjoyed hunting deer (for food) and taking care of the farm.

He was very old-fashioned...All he had in his house was a telephone and a scanner for the weather. That's what he did for his entire life to support himself. At his funeral, his friends remembered him as a man who loved to use his hands, support his family, go out hunting in the woods, and just working for himself.

I'm sure hev might have a point that a lot of people who have guns, are not responsible with them. But tadpole also has his point that it's not right to ban guns when their are some people like my Uncle, who are very responsible with them.

HOOYAH. Lets make things better, not worse... That's all I am saying. We are supposed to be the Land of the Free... Unfortunately Liberals and republicans alike mostly want to take that freedom away in favor of the illusion of safety...

What if there was a required civics class in gun safety? They would only be able to mandate it in public schools, but do you (all) think that would help at all?

Guns could be treated like cars. But with required education in their use. You'd have to take a test, written and practical to be allowed to legally operate a gun, and you would have to register your gun and have it inspected annually (check for illegal modifications, and a good oppotunity for tax revenue).
