The ancient Greeks used to say, "You shall know a man by the friends that he keeps." Given the nature of their friends and advisers, what are we to conclude about the Republican party:
Stop the madness before us it stops!

He has no responsibility to fund it, though. Yes, it would be convenient. I would prefer federal funding. However, if people don't want their tax dollars going to it, why should they fund it? Until it gets put on a general ballot, I see no problem in letting private firms fund their own research. I think the money flow would be more efficient anyway; you know how badly the feds screw everything up...Plus isn't it only on embryonic stem cells, and not adult stem cells?

Health care in this nation is in private hands yet we have the most wasteful system on the planet.

Yes, and? The government couldn't run health care any better. There are too many people, and a large percentage of those too many people are people who will retire soon and need even more medical care in the coming decades.+

There's no reason why stem cell research NEEDS to be federally funded. Private companies can do the R&D much more efficiently than the government, and we're already spending enough on other useless things. The firms that are making the most progress in ESC are more than capable of handling it themselves.

One of the reasons we have one of the most wasteful system when it comes to health care is thamks to our wonderful legal system. Lawsuits have caused physians to fear for their financial survival. As a result, rather than treat you for your symptoms they now must run tests to rule out every possible disease that might be causing said symptoms. God forbid that you ate a heavy Mexican dinner and later that night you experienced chest pains. Common sense would say heartburn, but medicine must rule out a heart attack. Instead of a $1500 bill for the ER visit, look forward to a $15000 after blood tests, x-rays, ekg and at least 6 hours of monitoring.

Believe it or not doctors are human and do make mistakes, but a mistake is a long shot from malpractice. But, lawyers are such wonderful people, and when a doctor makes a mistake he/she should have to pay.

Conservatism, I repeat is not an ideology. It does not breed fanatics....But if you want men who seek, reasonably and prudently, to reconcile the best in wisdom of our ancestors with the change which is essential to a vigorous civil social existence, then you will do well to turn to conservative principles

That brings us to a whole new can of worms: A sue-happy society.

People have learned that the quickest way to get money from people is to sue. I forget where I saw this, but I read somewhere that the difference between this generation and the "Greatest Generation" is that people today dream of winning the lottery or getting lots of money quickly to buy their dream house, and people back then dreamed of getting that big promotion so that they could build their dream house.

I think it's completely asinine that doctors have to run all those tests. I mean I guess it's good because it can reduce deaths, but then the once in a while that it does happen or the tests come out wrong, the doctor still manages to lose his practice.

I think every hospital needs a Gregory House.
