Question Made in China..

I'm asking this question because of a remark I read yesterday in a News story. MSNBC. The story was about a guy trying to get kids in China to play Baseball. He liked the sport. And thought the values were good for the kids to learn team spirit. and compete without violence. Not a bad Idea there. But some of the people posting were from china and giving their thoughts and opinions on the Idea. One comment from a large city in China. Made a remark that got me to thinking. This guy mentioned how this would give the poor parents something to do that would bring enjoyment to their lives. The implication was how poor they are.

Here lately, with all the attention to the poor products coming out of China. There are stories being written everywhere. One reporter tried to find American made products in a hunt for shoes. And found one set of shoes. And just about every where you look it's Made in China! So why are these people poor? Who is getting the money? why shouldn't the people who make this stuff, getting more of the profits?

One of the advantages of being part of living history, you can remember what they told you. And not just how the story changes 15 years later. When Bill Clinton first created NAFTA, one of the feel-good reasons was to help poor people in other countries that needed work badly. That one made me feel like okay, let's make their lives better! Now I'm wondering.. why are these people poor? We sure have and awful lot of stuff they can profit from. why aren't they getting the benefit? And who is?

China may be a booming economy - indeed, its GDP at $10 trillion isn't much less than the USA's at $13 trillion, but it has a population of 1.3bn as opposed to 300m in the USA.

So the amount of money per person is a lot less.
