I'd love to have an M-14 in the straight, standard issue "no frills" form.
And an M-1 Garand too.

Trouble is, it's getting to the point where it costs an arm, leg and an eyeball for either of those rifles.

I love my M-14's all in the Standard, wood stock form.

My buddy owns an M-1, it's a great rifle.

Yeah, I was talking to my dad about rifles one day, and he said, "Oh yeah, I remember back in the 50s, you could get M1 rifles and M1 carbines from military surplus for about $25-$50 each. I thought about it, but decided not to."

I could just kick him... LOL.

I've never seen one in a store for under $1,000. I was looking at M1 carbines the other day... $600 for one that was beat to hell.

I think my most expensive M-14 was 1250, and the other one was right around 1000, like maybe 950 or so...

BTW, how accurate are the Garand and the M-14? I'm talking with the standard-issue peep sights.

Oh, and another thing. One of the few things I thought was utterly unrealistic about "Saving Private Ryan" was how fast they shot the Garands in that movie... "Pop, pop, pop-pop-pop"... with almost no recoil.

For heaven's sake, that thing is a 30.06... I don't think you could sit there rack off rounds like that.... anyway, is that true, or just conjecture on my part?

On Mail Call they did a part on the Garand and even fired a clip from it and Erme fired the whole clip in about 5-8 seconds with nice acuracy and little recoil. Thats what made the gun so great.
A nice sized clip of 7(i think it was) shots
little recoil
and was cheap to build
