Defending the Truth

Okay, I was watching this show on the History Channel called, "Decoding the Past: Doomsday 2012: The End of Days". I was watching it, and they provided some very hard evidence that the world might end in 2012.

The show provided proof that the Mayan Calender might have prodicted the end of the world. There calender foretold so many things that actually happened. The Calender predicted two blonde haired Gods that would come from the other side of the vast ocean. The predicted the exact day they would arrive. March 12th, (i forget the year). The Calender also predicted many other things that would happen and did. The calender started form the day it was created, and ended December 21st, 2012.

The Calender even describes how the world will end. On December 21st, 2012, the earths crust will start to shift. It will alter the positions of the north and south pole. It is called a magnetic shift. The changing of the crust will wipe out humanity because climates will change so drastically, it will cause storms that have yet to be seen. All crops and livestock will die, bringing an end to humanity.

There was more, but it has been a couple of days since i've seen it.

I've always despised the History Channel. They play more biblical, scare mongering, and blatantly biased programming more than anything (except for perhaps Modern Marvels which details the inner workings and history of some of the most pointless crap that no one would ever care about). I call them pseudo-historians. Hell, now they have a show called "The Universe". I keep thinking I'm watching Nova or the Discovery Channel when I see it.

But anyway, the Mayans were an ignorant people. These are people who thought they were getting messages from the gods through the stars. This thing will blow over like 6/6/06 did, and, well, practically every other stupid and superstitious prophecies of the end of the world.

And anyway, the human race is fully capable of surviving a pole shift. It might be pretty devastated, but life has many ways of staying alive.

The Mayans never claimed the world would end in 2012. They simply had a series of long and short cycles, and their long cycle happens to finish in 2012.

That's akin to me having a 5-year diary which finishes in 2010. It doesn't mean the end of the world.

Pole shifts do happen periodically. The next one might start in the next few years, or the next few thousand years. We don't know. What we do know is that these things take a few decades to occur - certainly "sudden" in geological terms, but not so sudden that we can talk about it happening on a specific date in a specific year!

I'm goin with what the History Channel has to say, it all seems pretty convincing to me.

The world can't end in 2012, if I stay navy I won't be eligible for retirement till 2017... therefore... we should put it off till 2112

Sorry I can only roll the date on my computer forward to 2099, I guess the world will have to end then.

That works for me... I don't intend to live anywhere near that long!
