"You're going to hell!!"
I was briefly watching the tabloid journalism that is 20/20 and their 'expose' on hell. Marilyn Manson was talking about how, if hell existed, he'd probably be going there and be comfortable with that. I have a few issues when people say that.

1. Hell is designed to be uncomfortable. You would not be comfortable. By definition, you'd be in agony.
More pertinent to this post, 2. You sing 'blaphemous' lyrics and wear weird costumes. Do you really think you'd be comfortable when surrounded by those who murder for pleasure, people who have done the most horrific things a human being can do?

I realized that hell has been watered down and it's not been by our 'liberal society' but by Christians themselves. It seems that _everyone_ is going to hell, be it Catholics, other religions, people who swear, jaywalk on a Sunday...It's no longer reserved for those who are evil but for those who you disagree with.

Which is kind of funny. [Fundamentalist] Christians have been key in making hell a neutered concept.

Well i'll have to admit that any "hell" described by salvation peddlers the world over tends to include the most intersting, the most wise, the most progressive, the most liberal and the most revolutionary characters the world has ever known.

So to be honest if i was to go to the hell described by these ideological thugs, i think i would feel pretty comfortable. Mostly cuz i'm not at all intersted in going to the "heaven' promoted by these self-righteous buffoons who make their living by convincing the common man of how evil he is and how he can only go to "heaven" if he follows their instructions. i don't need nor do i want to go where they are going.

That's right. You think you're going to paradise with 70 virgins waiting to service you.

Do not presume to tell me what i believe. And don't ascribe to me the medieval beliefs promoted by certain unscrupulous muslim salvation peddlers. I'm not that stupid, and i would thank you to not assume i am. There are 73 major muslim sects and countless denominations with each interpreting, implementing and expressing their religion differently. Muslims are far from being unified or in agreement about the tenets of Islam and it is a complete contradiction of reality if you think they are

When we die our soul will leave our bodies. It stands to reason that once we lose our bodies, we no longer have the same carnal desires. It is silly IMHO to think that "heaven" is a PLACE with THINGS. It is a state of mind/soul. Sex is biological and thus it becomes redundant when we leave our biological capsule.

These alleged virgins in heaven are a tragic example of how low salvation peddlers will sink in order to control their followers. It's a lie developed and promoted by militant clerics, who feed the testosterone of their followers by promising them crazy orgies in the afterlife.

I do not conform to your prejudices PN. How do you deal with that?

Yes, you are correct, IMO. Heaven and Hell are states of the soul, not literal places or locations.

Heaven is nearness to God, Hell is seperation from God.

One can be in Heaven or Hell while still in this life.

The point is simple and is this:
If there is a heaven and it is actually full of Christians then Hell would be a much better alternative in a lot of people's eyes. That is why they would be comfortable with it.

And frankly I agree. If God judges based off Christian values I want absolutely NO part of heaven.

There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence.

First of all let me declare that I am agnostic. Just so whoever reads this knows where I am coming from.

But I came to agnosticism after much soul-searching and study of the Bible. (As well as other religious disciplines.)

It is my belief that careful reading and study of the Bible will lead one to the conclusion that what it really teaches about Heaven and Hell is as you have stated above. The stories in the Bible of a burning Hell were entirely allegorical, meant to establish a solid picture in the minds of men as to just how horrible this state of separation would be.
Right now America spends $700 billion every year on foreign oil. That's our money going overseas when it could be staying here. We have to stop this.

I'm with you on this one. I don't want to live eternity out in the company of most of the fundamentalists that I know.
