I think the word "survive" at that point would be more of a misnomer than an actual question. If people were to become the subjects of a global nuclear war, what sort of life might anyone not dead have?
However, KOS is correct. I was taught in school (no Stone- Age puns here) that the sun is just an ongoing thermonuclear explosion- just one that was not triggered by man. Any nuclear war will result cause the destruction of some amount, if not all, of the ozone layer which protects us now from much of the Sun's harmful rays. This layer is decaying over time as it is; we humans need not help it along.
When I spoke earlier of the sun being an ongoing nuclear explosion; scientifically, we must understand that some point in time in the future - nuclear war or not, this explosion will grow and eventually consume the Earth. Scientists can only guess at how many years in the future this will occur, but they all agree that it will.
