Question Two teens in trouble in Oregon
I don't know where to put this on the DTT board, so I guess this might be the only place.

Figure this one out, folks. It sounds wacky, but it could be serious. Two teenage boys in Oregon could be registered as, uh, sex offenders simply for whacking girls' derierres?

Well, it is heartening to see that 87% of people think this is a joke.

Yeah, and the other 13% have wrinkles on their foreheads because they frowned on it. So these boys are going through the legal system, not the most fun thing to do compared to playing sports and video games.

With the way society is right now, one would think that whatever someone says to a member of the opposite sex, could be construed as sexual harrassment.

I knew of a lady that I work with at the stadium years ago, before the Padres moved into their new ballpark. She once told me that she simply put her hand on a guy's thigh as an affection - and he sued her sexual harrassment, just like that.

Even weirder: One lady was conducting a seminar/session, in which she used a young man as a model, on how to do this or that when showing affection. When she demonstrated the "proper" way of touching a man's leg to the women in the audience, he sued her for sexual harrassment.

Well, is it safe to say that we live in a crazy world??

Uh, yeah. Agreed, 100%.

Time for tort laws.

You know an interesting coincidence?

During the VP debates in 2004, John Edwards was asked about tort reform.

What he said was he thought there should be an independent panel to evaluate the merits of a case before it's put to trial. Then, if it's found to have no merit, then the lawyer that brought the suit would be issued points against his license to practice law. So many points, and you lose your license.

This has something I've said for YEARS!!! The lawyers have nothing to lose in bringing these cases to court. They win no matter what. Let them put something on the line if they really believe in it.

Remember that case in Washington, DC? Brought on by that lawmaker vs. two people who run a dry-cleaning business for $67M. A judge or jury nullified that, but he is appealing that decision.

Yeah, that's the kind of crap I'm talking about.

Or the family of a suicidal woman who threw herself on the subway tracks in New York suing the transit authority for the train hitting the woman. They actually said that the woman was only 40% responsible and awarded them a bunch of money. She threw herself on the tracks, but she was only 40% responsible? WTF?!?!?!

Or the kind when a lawyer sues a local county winery company (in Temecula, CA). He said that the winery said that the lids that winery used was filled with lead or something.

Well, the lawyer lost, but he dragged the case through the system with idiotic appeals, thereby the winemaker spending more money to fight it.

Lawyers suing little people - it sucks.
