| Californians Overwhelmingly Favor Protecting Marriage “The Field Poll has been consistently incorrect on the people’s pulse for marriage” Sacramento, California – The statewide VoteYesMarriage.com coalition, sponsor of The Voters’ Right to Protect Marriage Initiative, is challenging the latest Field Poll (dated tomorrow) which reportedly suggests that Californians barely support protecting marriage for a man and a woman. “The Field Poll has been consistently incorrect on the people’s pulse on marriage,” said Randy Thomasson, a spokesperson for VoteYesMarriage.com. “Californians aren’t asleep on this issue; they’re very angry at judges and politicians who are attacking marriage and trashing the people’s precious vote on marriage. Voters are more than ready to go to the ballot to support the VoteYesMarriage.com amendment. They want to override the judges and politicians, and permanently protect marriage rights for one man and one woman.” In previous polls, the Field Poll has been “off” on marriage and the voters: 2000: On Feb. 29, 2000, The Field Poll said Proposition 22, the Protection of Marriage Initiative, was supported by only 53% of likely voters. One week later, on March 7, California voters passed Prop 22 by 61.4%. 2004: On June 4, 2004, just three months after the City of San Francisco outraged the strong majority of Californians by issuing “gay marriage” licenses, The Field Poll got it wrong again. Using a small sample of 745 voters, The Field Poll said that “same-sex marriage” is opposed by 53% and supported by 43% of California voters. Yet a month before, on April 26, the Los Angeles Times Poll revealed that the notion of “same-sex marriage” is opposed by a whopping two-thirds of Californians. In a large sample of 1,571 California residents, the Los Angeles Times Poll found only 31% of Californians support creating “gay marriages.” Even more revealing was that the June 2004 Field Poll included a multi-year list (1977-2004) of “voter opinion of allowing same-sex marriages in California,” yet left unmentioned the 4.6 million Californians voting “yes” for Prop. 22 in 2000. VoteYesMarriage.com has to ask, “Why is The Field Poll ignoring California voters?” “Marriage is a natural and beautiful institution between a man and a woman,” concluded Thomasson. “Having a father and a mother is obviously in the best interest of children. It’s wrong for judges and politicians to destroy marriage which is the very foundation of society. We invite everyone who believes marriage is special to visit VoteYesMarriage.com to help protect marriage rights for one man and one woman in the California State Constitution.” http://www.voteyesmarriage.com/uploa...oll_032106.pdf | |||||||||||||||||||||

| big surprise - Vote Yes America posts an article that says Vote Yes America is right about everything - and garysher creams his jeans at yet another article about gays. ![]() *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance. | Californians Overwhemingly Favor Protecting Marriage... Oh, they're for ending no-fault divorce laws. People sometimes divorce for the most frivolous of reasons. Adultery, abuse, and rape are rightfully valid reasons, but we need to protect the institution of marriage from people who aren't willing to commit! No? Oh, they're for more money for marriage counseling programs, that would make a lot of sense. We need to try to stop marriages from falling apart and tearing families into two, and getting more funding for these programs would be a smart step in the right direction! No? Oh, they're for tax breaks for families, finances can be a huge stress for people and especially families. It would be very helpful for families if their lives were made a bit easier for them! No? Oh, ok... banning gay marriage... yeah... Quote:

| mikelew - you're right. Polls are notoriously wrong. They ask EVERYBODY for their opinions. But not everybody actually VOTES. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance. Spot on Tristan. And when it comes to actually voting, more people seem to oppose homosexual marriage then polls indicate. Even in liberal California. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

| --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| The problem I have with the gay marriage issue is this: If a government is going to define marriage using religious values and deny marriage to certain people it is clearly unconstitutional. If that is what we have today then civil unions for ALL consenting adults is the only constitutional way forward. Christian couples could still get "married" at their church but the government would only recognize civil unions... not marriages, and those civil unions would be available to consenting adults. --- help me Instant Runoff Voting, you're my only hope --- There is little doubt that the world in general is more liberal than it was 50 years ago and beyond. Conservatives are simply roadblocks on the path to an ever more progressive and liberal world. What a sad existence. | |||||||||||||||||||||
