Points: 24,684, Level: 95 | Level up: 96%, 666 Points needed | | Did God inspire the US Constitution? I'm a Christian too and a big fan of America.
But don't you think it's a tad pretentious to suggest that the Declaration of Independence, US Constitution, Bill of Rights etc were somehow God-given?
According to the Bible God's "chosen people" were the Jews, not the Americans.
I sometimes hear right-wing wacko preachers on radio or TV denigrating Canada and Europe as "socialist" and somehow inferior to America with its God-given "rights".
I'm all for patriotism but "gimme a break"!
In any case, most countries have freedom of religion, of speech, etc, and they didn't all have to slaughter an indigenous race to get it?

America is the "land of milk and honey" that was promised to Abraham and his descendants, Gary.

When God gives a blessing to a nation, it's not up to us how He does it. | Ask the North American Indian nations if they thought European invaders were a "blessing"!
And why claim a monopoly on God-inspired Constitutions??
It could be taken as offensive to other nations. And it also creates a xenophobic closed-minded, unworldliness that has got America into a lot of bad situations.

How would you characterise the difference?
And which one applies to the US Constitution?

But I agree with you, Gary; you make a very good point. |

the same way I can write a song that was inspired by The Rolling Stones, and having The Rolling Stones give me a song which I'm allowed to call my own.

I have always wanted to see a discussion about the beginnings of this country with an eye toward the Native Americans. The whole concept of "These United States" is built on theft, deceit, rape, and a bit o' slavery and murder .

And some Africans were sold into slavery by other Africans.
Human nature is what it is.
