| A gay wedding at a black Baptist church Now here is something I thought we would literally NEVER see. Sure, there was controversy and debate, but the fact that it actually happened... well, some might just call it a miracle. Thanks, HRC! I thought I would leave you all with this piece of good news on the social progress front before heading out for the weekend. Have a good one! ====== Rift Over Gay Unions Reflects Battle New to Black Churches - washingtonpost.com Never in a "million years" did Robert Renix think he would find a Baptist church that would accept someone like him: a black Baptist gay man. Never mind one that would allow what happened one Saturday last month, when a tuxedo-clad Renix stood in front of the pulpit at Covenant Baptist Church in Anacostia, exchanging vows with his partner, Antonio Long. Covenant Baptist works with the Human Rights Campaign, a gay rights organization, on outreach to black churches and is the only Baptist church listed with the city's Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs as being welcoming to homosexuals. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| wow gay? black? I bet that wedding had serious style! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance. Legalized same-sex marriage almost certainly benefits those same-sex couples who choose to marry, as well as the children being raised in those homes. - David Blankenhorn is president of the New York-based Institute for American Values and the author of "The Future of Marriage." | |||||||||||||||||||||

| There are cultural influences that would affect the wedding, but I assure you that this is not as unique as they make it seem. Some black churches will have ceremonies even if the partners are gay. It isn't something that is often discussed in the media. Just depends on who the pastor is. | |||||||||||||||||||||

WOW. lol You have never SEEN such style...everybody looked like they just walked off a freakin' catwalk! And color??? WOW. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Conservatism: Self-centered mean-spiritedness fueled by ignorance and misguided self-importance. Bigotry is a social disease.
