| Bush's reaction to 9/11 We all remember 9/11, a day, that will too, live in infamy, but i would like to address something else. Bush's reaction. "Freedom was attacked this morning by a faceless coward." -George Bush, September 11th, 2001 This really kind of blows my mind. Can you really call someone a faceless coward after flying a plane right into two towers? They gave thier lifes for thier God, how are they cowards? Think about this, this proabably took months, maybe years to plan this. I don' think they are "faceless cowards" even if it was an act of terrorism. what you all think about this? I think that it is irrelvant and made for a good speech. Bush gave the people what they wanted. SOME kind of reason for an insane and inexplicable action in the absence of reason and logic. 9/11 was an act of hate and manipulation. It doesn't matter WHO perpetrated it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

But the murder of unarmed civilians for political purposes is a cowardly act. So maybe that is what Bush and others mean when they use is that way. I think that calling them ignoble or dishonorable would have been a more accurate choice of words. But neither of those carries the emotional weight of coward.

I find it emotionally charged too but I thought that I was weird for that. I don't think most people react that way to dishonorable. I suspect that most people who are in the military or were formerly in the millitary would find it as damning as coward.

| Well i think "coward" is the only word they could find to use.. Any other word could jsut as easily be used to describe US actions. Lest i launch into another rant about how similar "terrorist" and "anti-terrorist" actions are, suffice it to say that the only difference that Bush could stick to is that fact that the US/the West does its killing in the open with big guns from a distance. The terrorists on the other hand do it covertly and nobody knows its gonna happen before it happens ( Unlike Iraq for example that EVERYBODY knew was gonna happen before it did). I dunno though.. killing yourself for a cause (horribly misguided as it may be) requires some serious cojones. Sitting pretty in a bomber at 30,000 feet dropping explosives hardly seems *ahem* BRAVE in comparison does it. Anyhow anything Bush says is at BEST rhetoric, and at worst a bald faced lie. What he said after 9/11 is hardly any different.. EMotionally loaded words are thrown about with the purpose of galvanizing support ( not with the purpose of actually analyzing, understanding and SOLVING anything). Just another teeny fart in the whirlwind of rhetoric the Bush admin has hidden their not-so-damn-noble motives behind. Love for all, Hatred for none | |||||||||||||||||||||

When you are living in poverty, and someone tells you that your family will live well and that you will go to heaven and have 40 virgins waiting for you, and will be at peace for all eternity only if you strap on this C4 and blow up a school bus, well, sorry, I don't think it's that brave. But the REAL cowards aren't the ones doing the bombing, but the losers that send them out to do the bombing.

| Anyways, killing yourself for your God? I doubt that it would make you a coward, no matter how horrible it was. Im sorry, but what they did was brave and loyal to thier God. A 'faceless coward', yeah way to lie to the people Bush! "The Cavaliers are my hero's!!" -Anti-Choice57 and John on a Band trip to Texas after The Cavaliers won the 2006 DCI World Championchips. | Suicide in any form is a cowardly way out. You harm and sometimes devastate others, and in the end you don't have to suffer through their faces. These guys, though i don't believe they would feel guilty for the families of the people lost that day (kinda a heartless act), caused an entire war between the US and Afghanistan. We(the United States), basically crushed the Al Qaida forces in A'stan. During this process, multiple lives of innocents, perhaps even one of the assailant's children were lost. This is how war is played. These men killed over 1000 innocent Americans, and luckily got to dip out(dead) before they were arrested by the victim(America) of a mass homicide. They were also just lucky enough to stand back while their country fell into shambles over their actions. This is what Allah wants. His people to suffer in his name. Tell me this isnt cowardice. | |||||||||||||||||||||

And in any case a bomber at 30,000 feet must necessarily also be a coward as he only drops the bombs and he NEVER sees what lives he destroys, what humans he maims and what homes he levels to the ground. This is not a defense of a horrible act, but merely a question about whether the tag of "coward" is anything more than a subjective condemnation. To a man whose house just got destroyed by an american bomber, perhaps the word "coward" would fit quite well when describing the maerican soldier who dropped the explosives from a safe distance. When you are about to blow yourself up, i think things are a bit more complicated than " i don't wanna see the people i kill so i'll kill myself" Quote:
THe IRaq war on the other hand is a whole different ballgame. Quote:
Well it's certainly something as simple as cowardice.. the words frustration, illiteracy, exploitation, misinformation, poverty, political instability, corruption and desperation come to mind. "Cowardice" is totally irrelevant ( other than of course as splendid political rhetoric.. which people seem to be lapping up) Love for all, Hatred for none
