For all you people who think Christians

are persecuted, check this out.

I got a note in my son Spencer's backpack this week (he's in 1st grade).

It said that for the first time in years, they WILL be celebrating holidays again.

He will be allowed to wear a costume on October 31. He will be able to decorate for Christmas, they will be giving out Valentines.

I see nothing wrong with celebrating the holidays in school. As long as ALL the children are included.

I think kids and parents alike were disappointed by not having holidays.

Did you knew ahead of time Knotty that the school didn't have celebrations like that? Must have been for political reasons.

Something that I have never been able to figure out is why the adults in charge of schools -- from the board of ed. to the PTA -- can't get together and act like adults and work out compromises on such issues that allow all kids to celebrate their own cultural holidays without doing it in a way that is offensive to kids who come from families with a different culture.

The only answer that I seem to be able to come up with is because there aren't enough real adults in charge. They seem to be mostly run by 3 to 10-yr-olds in adult bodies.

Okay, we're talking elementary school, now.

When Josh and Nick were in elementary, they had all kinds of holiday celebrations. In December they did a combination hanakah/christmas/kwanza thing, then did the parade around the school with them wearing costumes, etc.

Then when Zack got to be about 3rd grade, they just stopped. Wouldn't even let the kids exchange valentines.

I thought this was ridiculous, but okay, fine.

We got a new school board, and I think they have a little more common sense, and things are going to go back to the way they were.

I mean, come on!!! It's fun for the kids, people. That's what it's all about.

Amen to that.

Not having celebrations of any kind is silly, if you ask me. My elementary school had all kinds of those. Somehow I miss the old days. Valentines Day went over bigger than Christmas.

We used to do the apples-bobbing-in-the-water game on Halloween. I can't remember what we really did on Halloween, especially before the 4th grade.

I can remember when my 1st and 2nd grade teacher (she taught both at the same time) made a little housebox for us to put our Valentine's Day cards in.

My best friend is living with hubby and me right now. She's a halloween freak too. We're already in the planning and buying supplies stage.
