Dear Tristan,

I'm not one to mince words ... so I'm going to tell you straight ... I'm sick and tired of the Religious Right trying to tell me how I ought to live my life. And after more than six years of the Bush Administration, I'm sick and tired of having to apologize for my President.

That's why I was so thrilled to join Speaker Nancy Pelosi, businesswoman Sheila Johnson, U.S. Ambassador Jim Hormel and many others at the recent People For the American Way Spirit of Liberty Awards in Washington, DC. We honored Speaker Pelosi, filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, co-directors of the documentary "Jesus Camp," Rutgers Women's basketball coach Vivian Stringer and visionary philanthropist Tim Gill.

It was an inspirational night. It's always so refreshing to be in the same room with hundreds of fellow rabble-rousers! I'm guessing you are a rabble-rouser too -- and I'm hoping you'll decide to join me in taking back our country by sending agenerous contribution to People For the American Way today.

Let's face it. The right wingers have more money than we do. They have more radio and television networks than we do. And they have been building their political power -- from the school boards to the White House -- very methodically for many, many years. They've used that power to put George Bush and others in office to advance their extreme ideas. And to dramatically shift the Supreme Court to the right.

Enough is enough!

It's time for all of us to push back. I for one am not going to sit back quietly and let the Radical Right continue to dictate the direction of my country.
