Question Under God not in the pledge of allegiance.

I heard the words under God has been taken out of our pledge of allegiance, is this true? It's illegal to say under God when pledging? Isn't that a freedom taken away? Rights for whom, freedom of speech for whom? Has secularism taken over America? pljames

I know the grandchildren do not say the pledge of allegiance nor have they since they started school some years ago.

No, it's not illegal to recite the Pledge with the phrase "under God" in it, nor has the phrase "under God" been removed. It's still exactly the same as it was when the phrase was added to the Pledge back in 1954.

I don't understand what the big deal is. There was no Pledge until 1892. I suppose those 1st hundred years or so the people were just less patriotic.
Quote:
Francis Bellamy (1855 - 1931), a Baptist minister, wrote the original Pledge in August 1892.
And "under God" was not added until 1954. I guess the U.S. was just less religious before 1954.

Quote:
In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer.

I was a little surprised to hear "God Bless America" sung during the 7th innings of the World Series last night.

If it's the WORLD Series then surely they should sing "God Bless The World" and not just America??

History Gary. The world series is an American icon of sports as is "God Bless America" being sung at the start of the game.

I think it's ironic that "In God We Trust" is on our money -- because money often drives people to do the most ungodly things.

Soldiers in the German Wehrmacht during World War II wore belt buckles inscribed with "Gott Mit Uns" which translates too "God with us."

Of course, before I took German in college, I always thought they must have had cold hands, and were asking "Got Mittens?"

If you don't want to say the pledge of allegience, then don't. If you don't want to say "under God", then don't. If you don't want to support America and anything it stands for, then shut the fuck up and move to another country that adheres more to your sensibilities.

Everybody knows that Germans are the master race and God will always be with them.
