Harry Potter
I don't know if any of you are Harry Potter Fans but I am sure you know someone who is. What is your fillings of this news...........
Hope you had a good turkey day............

Dumbledore was gay, JK tells amazed fans
Observer UK
There could hardly have been a bigger sensation if Russell Crowe, Rod Stewart or Sven-Goran Eriksson had come out of the closet. Millions of fans around the world were yesterday digesting the news that one of the main characters in the Harry Potter novels, Albus Dumbledore, is gay.

The revelation came from author JK Rowling during a question-and-answer session at New York's Carnegie Hall. It instantly hurtled around the internet and the world. News websites in China and Germany announced starkly: 'JK Rowling: "Dumbledore is gay".' One blogger wrote on a fansite: 'My head is spinning. Wow. One more reason to love gay men.'
After reading briefly from her mega-selling book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, on Friday night, Rowling took questions from an audience of 1,600 students. A 19-year-old from Colorado asked about the avuncular headmaster of Hogwarts School: 'Did Dumbledore, who believed in the prevailing power of love, ever fall in love himself?'
The author replied: 'My truthful answer to you...I always thought of Dumbledore as gay.' The audience reportedly fell silent - then erupted into prolonged applause.
Rowling, 42, continued: 'Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald [a bad wizard he defeated long ago], and that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent, but he met someone as brilliant as he was and, rather like Bellatrix, he was very drawn to this brilliant person and horribly, terribly let down by him.'
She added: 'Yeah, that's how I always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read-through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying, "I knew a girl once, whose hair..." I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, "Dumbledore's gay!"' Amazed by the warm reaction of the audience, Rowling, on her first US tour in seven years, joked: 'Just imagine the fan fiction now.'

That's just ignorant, there wasn't a Gay Pride Parade, Gay Bar, or even a public restroom mentioned in any of her books. I don't believe her. How did she know?
Maybe she ought to put out a prequel called "The Fairys of Dumbledore".

I've read all the books, I really don't see how it changes the story either way.

I don't recall any particular part of any of them that made me think "could Dumbledore be gay?" I read 1-6 one right after another in a short amount of time. May she thinks people will go back and re-read the series looking for hints and clues to Dumbledores sexuallity.

and I wouldn't get your hopes up about a prequel full of gay wizard sex.... she is a childerens author.

That's what I was saying. I totally agree with you. She was just making a personal statement, one that doesn't surprise me in one bit from someone in her profession.

The prequel wasn't a real suggestion, although I don't see why it couldn't be written with a more adult audience in mind.

sunflower, I couldn't care about the nonexistent sex life of a fictional character.

The only thing I feel about this is a bit of sadness for the kids that will now not be allowed to read the books. I know there are many parents who wouldn't allow their children to read the books because they were about witchcraft and wizardry ... this will give the wackjob zealots another reason to deprive kids of being part of a harmless reading phenomenon among children - not something that happens all that often!

I think the whole concept of Harry Potter is as gay as Elton John and Liberache playing piano at a Sigfried and Roy show while the Village People dance with the tigers.

So what? The movies are still fun in a mildly entertaining way.

I fill like you do.I really don't know why she did it myself. With all the backlash about witchcraft and such she should have known this would be even worse.I think that is why I have not found anything about it in the US news.

J.K. Rowling was just trying to boost her sales in the "gay" market.

After all, since they don't have wives or girlfriends burning through all their money, gays have much more disposable income.

It's just good business sense on her part.
