| Massive Rallies Support Papal Slam at Gays Massive Rallies For Papal Slam At Gays by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff Posted: December 30, 2007 - 1:00 pm ET (Vatican City) Tens of thousands gathered in Madrid and Vatican City for Catholic rallies promoting traditional families on Sunday. Pope Benedict XVI addressed the crowd in St Peter's Square in his last Angelus prayer of 2007 which was broadcast on a giant TV screen for throngs who had come to Madrid's Plaza de Colon to hear him. Many of the faithful at the Madrid rally were bussed to the capital from cities throughout Spain. Police declined to give a crowd estimate but there were so many people they spilled out into streets feeding into the square. The pope spoke from the window of his apartment overlooking St Peter's Square which was packed. Benedict spoke in both Italian and Spanish admonishing the faithful to protect traditional marriage. Spain legalized same-sex marriage in 2005, Italy has been mulling civil partnership legislation. In Spanish the Pope said that the family is "based on the unbreakable union of man and woman and represents the privileged environment where human life is welcomed and protected from the beginning to its natural end." The remarks were greeted with a massive cheer in Madrid. "It is worthwhile to work for the family and marriage because it is worthwhile to work for the human being, the most precious being created by God," he said. While the crowd in Madrid was massive it was considerably smaller than in 2005 shortly before the Spanish government enacted same-sex marriage legislation making the country the third in the European Union to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry. At that demonstration police estimated the crowd at 150,000, although the Church said there were about two-million people. (hee hee) Italian Prime Minister Romano Prime Minister supports civil partnerships, but legislation has bogged down in Parliament where the right-of-center opposition has vowed to defeat it. Okay. I understand the old Nazi in skirts doesn't like gay people...he's made that quite clear. But what I don't understand is how having "massive rallies" in any way supports, defends or protects "traditional" families. Does this old coot really think that gay people marrying is going to stop heterosexuals from reproducing? Does he think that when gay people are allowed to marry, millions of straight people are going to sigh 'At last! Now I can be gay as I was always meant to be?' How does harming "non-traditional" families in any way HELP "traditional" families? How is it that a human being is "most precious being created by God" - unless that human being is gay?! I just don't get such transparent lunacy. Frankly, I hope I never do. I could accept if it he just trotted out one of the three tired scriptures about straight people engaging in homosexual acts. But - to say such hurtful and mean things hardly seems - well - Christian, to me. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "know this is EXACTLY why people think you shouldnt have equal rights" 2/11/08 Grace | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Your mad cause the Pope is against homosexuality?? LOL We dont want perversion as a accepted part of our community (im not catholic, but on this me and the pope are in agreement). Its within our right to feel this way. Personaly I wouldnt even have a dog in this fight if not for the fact that the homosexual agenda includes brainwashing of children. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| I'm not mad at the Pope. I don't understand the ugly double speak he uses. I don't want vicious and ugly bigotry to be part of our community either - but I have gotten used to that...so I'm sure you can get used to law-abiding, loving citizens being part of our community. I have no idea what you mean by "brainwashing of children." If that "brainwashing" means teaching children tolerance and compassion and living life in a generous and kind way to our fellow human beings - then I'm all for it. I'm sorry you're against that. But, as you said, it's your right to feel any way you like. Quote:

| Tristan, honestly, why do you care about what the pope thinks anyway? Hell, the Catholic church is still touting shit against birth control. I wouldn't waste any time being concerned about what the pope says anymore than I would be concerned about what the good Reverend Fred Phelps thinks. | |||||||||||||||||||||

| I swear I wish more people on the fence about homosexuality knew Tristan...The numbers of people against it would shoot up tremendously. | |||||||||||||||||||||

My comments were focused on why more people don't see through his transparent veil of bigotry. I know there will always be bigots - and somebody with a history of being a Nazi, well, LOL, chances are they are well-versed in it. But OTHERS who hear it - why are they so blinded that they don't hear the idiocy of the statements made? I'm not concerned about Phelps - his motley crew just got handed a multi-million dollar bill for being a'holes ... I think he's going to have other fish to fry other than gay couples. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "know this is EXACTLY why people think you shouldnt have equal rights" 2/11/08 Grace | ||||||||||||||||||||||
