Women and gay men are 'worst drivers'
Here's proof of what we all knew was true................

Women and gay men are 'worst drivers'

Research has revealed that both perform poorly in tasks involving navigation and spatial awareness when compared to heterosexual men.

Psychologists at Queen Mary, University of London, who conducted the study, believe the findings mean driving in a strange environment would be more difficult for gay men and women than for straight male motorists.

Both tend to rely on local landmarks to get around, and are also slower to take in spatial information.

The computer-based tests were carried out on 140 volunteers, and demonstrated that gay men, straight women and lesbians navigated in a similar way, sharing the same weaknesses.

The results back earlier studies supporting the stereotype that women are poor navigators.

Although women are more successful in tests requiring them to remember the position of objects, men consistently do better in tasks requiring navigation and uncovering hidden objects.

Dr Rahman said: "Men are good at using distal, or geometrical cues, to decide if they’re going north or south, for instance. They have a better basic sense of direction, but they can use local land marks as well.

Nonsense!

What your "spun" article is really saying is that gay men and women have similar driving - uh - tendencies.

Here is the correct link (please make a note of it): Latest news - School of Biological and Chemical Sciences

You see Gary, women are actually better drivers than men (at least according to this article, taken from the same newspaper):

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=ORA5EHXOGW1NJQFIQMFSFGGAVCBQ OIVO?xml=/news/2007/02/23/nwomen123.xml

In other words, it can be argued that gay men and women (having the same driving tendencies) are actually better drivers, not worse.

Furthermore, if what I've said is true, then straight men are the shittiest drivers on the face of this planet (as my driving record surely proves)!

So, as usual Gary. . . you are full of shit.

What good is being a great driver if you don't know where the heck you are going. I like how you changed the entire point of what Gary said. Everyone knows that men take more risks driving, but it's also known that women can't navigate their way down a one way street. So while you changed the subject to something favorable to you, Gary's point was that women and gay men are bad navigators, not bad drivers.

Whatever. . . lol.

If that was in fact Gary's point, then I apologize to him (in keeping with the general spirit of the "off-topic" forum). . .

Just letting off steam, Fx (while trying to study for a test at the same time).

No harm, no foul.

Upon rereading that post....You might be right. Gary misrepresented the story. He said "worst drivers" but the story was about women and gay men having no sense of direction. You were right.

Maybe men think this is so, cos it seems that they are less likely to stop and ask for directions!!!

I wonder though since the article was addressing the likenesses in women drivers and gay men drivers, where do lesbians fit in to the profiling?

Hey Nightrider, good to see ya posting, even studying for exams. Wishing you good luck with all that.

Depending on how you would rate drivers; according to the auto insurance industry, single men aged 18 to 30 pay the higher rates. Single women in this same age group don't pay nearly as much in premiums. Your insurance agent will tell you the same thing. Of course, when you start adding kids to your policy, rates go up.
Now what does this all have to do with who are better drivers? Nothing; as far as I can tell. But I can tell you that I think it will be a cold day in the infernal region before you will have to provide proof of your sexual preference on an automobile insurance policy.
In other words, I don't think you will ever find conclusive proof of such a claim- do police officers ask people if they are heterosexual or homosexual when they fill out accident reports or traffic tickets?

Speaking as a former OTR driver, taxi driver, and pizza delivery dude with an excellent sense of direction and spatial navigation,
