responsibility

The portrayal of women having abortions as "selfish" seems to be misguided.

Concern for Current and Future Children A Key Reason Women Have Abortions

"Responsibility for Existing Children and “Ideal” Conditions for Motherhood Found to be Important Factors
Women’s sense of responsibility for their existing and future children influences their decision to seek an abortion, according to “‘I Would Want to Give My Child, Like, Everything in the World:’ How Issues of Motherhood Influence Women Who Have Abortions,” by Rachel Jones et al., published in the January 2008 issue of the Journal of Family Issues. The majority (61%) of U.S. women who have abortions are already mothers, more than half of whom have two or more children. In many cases, women choose abortion because they are motivated to be good parents. Women who have no children want the conditions to be right when they do; women who already have children want to be responsible and take care of their existing children."

If they want to be responcible, USE PROTECTION. When A women finds herself on the abortion table, "responcibility", and "motivation to be a good parent" have already long left the table.

The truth is most abortions are among the greatest acts of selfishness that there ever was. MANY are fully capable financialy, ect ect to raise children, they just dont want to. So not only have they shown the extreme depth of there greed and selfishness, they have no problem tacking on murder as well.

Even the very best protection fails.

In the Know: Questions About Pregnancy, Contraception and Abortion

"Fifty-four percent of U.S. women who had an abortion in 2000 were using a method in the month they became pregnant"

Get "In the Know": Characteristics of Women Having Abortion

Why do women have abortions?
  • Most U.S. women cite more than one factor contributing to their decision to have an abortion: Almost three-quarters say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about three-quarters say they cannot afford to have a child; and almost half say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner. Then they should have known they couldnt afford to have unprotected sex. 54% of women may have said they were using protection, but considering the success rate of most birth control, obviously someone is lying.

A male condom has a 2% failure rate IF it is used perfectly. How many people do you know who are perfect? Even if used perfectly, 2% failure rate means 2 out of 100 get pregnant EVERY YEAR. Please notice that even sterilization has failure rates. People who have not experienced failure of birth control tend to think that people who DO experience failure are not diligent, not intelligent, or lazy, when the fact is, success of birth control depends to a great degree on LUCK.

There's a huge difference between 2% and the 54% you quoted. A difference of 52% to be precise.

My nephew was taught in health class that condoms fail 50% of the time. (though his teacher seems to have failed to point out that this is because people do not use them correctly.) I have no way of verifying that figure but it is very close to OKgrannie's 54% figure.

I would think that the higher failure rate of other methods would bring that figure up quite a bit.

You're somehow connecting the 2% failure rate of condoms perfectly used with the fact that 54% of women having abortions were using birth control. Perhaps some of the women using birth control were using the withdrawal method or periodic abstinence, much less reliable methods. IAC, NO ONE is perfect, but even if a woman COULD be perfect, there would still be failures. After all, IUD's and sterilization do not depend upon diligent application and yet women still get pregnant.

If a woman is serious about not getting pregnant she will make sure the guy wears a condom even if she is using some other form of birth control - no excuses
