Yeah, that poor kid probably has thought the same. His appearance, his lost countenance is a sign and a shame to whoever his parents are.
And I am going to even go so far as to say that it no doubt is that the father is no where to be found in that child's life. Whether by the father's choice or the mother's willful pride and bitterness. Though most likely the father's lack of concern and responsibility.
That person in the picture deserves to live and deserves to know love. And you would be so high and mighty and arrogant as to dismiss his value???
Guess you just lived a fortunate life and don't have a clue...

My life hasn't been as fortunate as you might think and I guess my patience is wearing too thin. I just have a hard time feeling sympathy for a kid like that. His father is probably in prison and his mother is probably a dumbshit; but none of that is my fault. |

But here is where we have to say that no man is an island. And the betterment of humanity does rely on compassion and I dare say that your individualist 'tude is what relegated many people to the Holocaust. As you can so unthinkingly discard human life.
That person depicted in the OP may be, if given the love and stability presently lacking in his life, the one who finds a cure for some dreadful cancer! You gotta have faith in folk Pen.
Don't stop believing in folk.

He probably doesn't even know his father and the father is either dead or in prison anyway. His mother has is fairly stupid, has seven other kids, and usually forgets he even exists. This is all very sad, and it's highly unlikely he will ever receive the professional help he needs to contribute to society.
The likely senario is this: he will receive substandard professional help at the taxpayers' expense and it will do no good whatsoever; he will continue to weird-off and commit some gruesome crime, and he will be institutionalized at the taxpayer's expense. He will get out of said institution in seven years, more fucked-up than ever, and commit more gruesome crimes.
Or, he will commit suicide and save taxpayer money as well as some innocent peoples' lives.
You tell me which is best. |

The chance of that kid becoming a productive member of society is next to zero. The chance of that kid weirding-off and committing some gruesome crime is very high.

But I survived and figure that this little bit of life here on planet earth is like a blade of grass in the big field of all that' s left to live in forever. And better to live it believing in humanity than grumping about the times you get "screwed"...
